Hyperhydrosis specialist (for 8-year-old)

Featured Replies

My 8-year-old son has always suffered from excessively sweaty hands and feet, which has started to impact his learning (sometimes he can't keep hold of a pen) and playing (not easy to hold a handheld game device or phone with very sweaty hands).

Is this an allergy or a genetic issue? His mother does have the same problem, but nowhere as bad as him and only usually when she's stressed.

Can anyone recommend a clinic or doctor (preferably in the Pattaya/Rayong area) who could do something about this - or is it something that can be treated by OTC medicines?

Thanks

There is no OTC medication for this per se.

First step is to determine if there is an underlying cause or if it is idiopathic.

in children, common underlying causes include  various hormonal and metabolic disorders (hyperthyroidism, diabetes etc) and infection, so some blood tests will be in order.

I suggest you see a pediatric endocrinologist such as:

https://www.phyathai-sriracha.com/doctor/pediatrics-en/พญ-ดบัสวินี-สุขโขใจวรัตถ/?lang=en

These are in  Chonburi town and Sri Racha respectively,  AFAIK there are no pediatric endocrinologists in Pattaya itself.

If underlying cases are excluded then botox injections into the areas affected can bring relief. Will need to be repeated a couple of times a year.

We took my son to see Dr Hataichanok Bansiddhikongmanast at Samitivej, Chonburi.  She prescribed a blood test for hyperthyroidism and the result was in the 'normal' range.  She advised us to take him to a Pediatric Dermatologist.   Although we can do this at Samitivej, Chonburi, the hospital is a long drive from our home.  Do most hospitals in Pattaya/Rayong have pediatric dermatologists and can anyone (or @Sheryl) recommend one?

Many thanks.

Most hospitals do nto have this.

There is one at BPH  https://bangkokpattayahospital.com/doctor/dr-pasinee-jantarasoon/

Was he also checked for diabetes?

Thanks.  No, I don't think diabetes was mentioned.  My wife suffers from the same problem, usually brought on my stress/tension.  The doctor seemed to think my son's sweaty hands/feet is genetic and said a dermatologist can treat it.

BPH is much easier for us, so we will follow your recommendation.
