webfact
The president of the Pattaya City Night Business Association is optimistic about the potential of nightlife extension activities until 4am. However, she noted that the current directive only applies to the U-Tapao Airport area. She urged the government to better understand the unique dynamics of Pattaya, a city heavily reliant on tourism. Lisa Hamilton voiced her concerns that while the government perceives Pattaya as saturated with tourists, it may not fully comprehend the challenges faced by the city, especially after she meets with the Tourism Commission. She suggested that the government should extend the operating hours of entertainment venues to match those of other tourist cities, which would contribute significantly to the country’s revenue. If a 24-hour operating window were achievable, it would be ideal, but she recognised the difficulties in implementing a nightlife extension policy. Instead, she encouraged the government to extend the operating hours until 4am for tourist cities, significantly increasing revenue. by Nattapong Westwood Photo: cherrytaxiservice.com. Revenue for whom? And will those people pay tax on the revenue? Most of the problems with late closing times are not inside the venues which stay open late. More drunk people, more disturbances, more accidents, all that is bad for the towns in general. What is the positive side of 4am for most of the people who live in those towns? 2 1 1
StayinThailand2much
The coveted Chinese tourists won't care. Purdey
I suppose copying other countries on opening times without asking their governments about accompanying negatives is... not a great idea.

pedro01
Some cultures - like Spain and Italy, typically take a late dinner - like 9pm and go out later and stay out later. It's not as if they drink for longer that their peers in other countries - they just start later. So I see this as a positive for Thailand attracting tourists that are used to later nights. Nothing wrong with it.

Popular Post paul1804
If you can't get enough booze and bar girls by 2am there's something wrong with you, this will just increase crime, road accidents and all the BS that goes with the type of patrons who will frequent the establishments in these hours. 2

kinyara
I think opening later is counter productive, just leads to more crime and general anti-social behaviour and a more lawless/negative picture of the city, which may well put more tourists off visiting rather than attracting them. Additional expenditure or just the same budgets spread over extended opening hours ? That lady has complained in the press in the past about late night music coming from the cars parked along Jomtien Beach Road, ( presumably because it was affecting her ), so she's aware of the anti-social nature of later night socialising
natway09
Having owned 2 successful bars for over 24 years in Bangers, I note the following for discussion Any owner who does not register their premises, get a business licence, a liquor & cigarette licence & maintain these & pay every year in early January is just plain brain dead.. Cost : Maximum 3,000 Bht for all. Without "late closing" we would not have done anywhere as well, as many sports go well beyond. Yes, we paid the piper a reasonable commission but not stupid money & worth it. They would visit & buy drinks & lady drinks more often than I expected. Endgame: Most well run bars can & have stayed open as & when required without too many hassles & the odd time the "message from above" came down that the big boys visiting we would close on time. In 22 years only had to bring in BIB 2 times for idiots In actuality not required to open until 4am, & most will not except for nightclubs & special nights & 5 years ago they opened until very late anyway. Ban the street bars with no control, aircon, toilets nor licences, they are & always have been a bloody nuisance & pay no tax nor dues. Will 2 extra hours help Thailand, in actuality just a little bit, The conception & advertising aspect may attract a few more, but do we want them ? 1
SingAPorn
This will surely boost the cash flow for the barfines. And give the unattractive ones a chance once the farang is drunk.

I was thinking that most of the tourists I am familiar with are sun worshippers who spend breakfast to dinner baking by the pool, or some that like to get up and go on daily outings. The subset who want to be out partying until 4am and then irritate the cleaners by getting up late is surely a minority? Is this perhaps more for the benefit of domestic tourists?
