Thailand Child

Featured Replies

Hello,

I have a kid 4 years to my Thai wife (married) and I'm from Canada.

That said, I need to travel abroad (Japan) alone with my daughter and wife will follow.

Her papers are registered in Phuket and will go to the City Hall tomorrow.

Just to male sure, what is needed paper wise for my wife to allow me to travel with my child.  There is no problem on that side.  Trying to avoid traveling with a missing paper!

- Child birth certificate

- Marriage certificate

???

Thanks

Stephane

The 2 papers you stated and:

Written conscent from the amphur with your wifes signature.

Maybe you not need all, but then you will be safe.

Two years ago I had all three documents for my 12 year old daughter when I arrived at the Chiang Mai Airport to board a flight to the USA.  My daughter was taken into a room and I was questioned to the point where I asked the officials questioning me to call my wife.  They did so and had no problems after that but it was not as easy as I had envisioned to leave Thailand as the father of a Thai child.  My daughter did have a US passport as well as a Thai passport.

OP doesn't mention if the child has a passport, orif passport does exist  what the country of issue is?

Get you child (a kid is a goat) a passport . A passport takes about a week

APPLYING & GETTING A THAI PASSPORT FOR YOUR CHILD

To apply for a Thai passport for minors, the following documents are required:

  • Thai Birth Certificate – the original or 1 copy
  • Current Thai National ID Card – the original or 1 copy
  • A copy of Thai House Registration of the minor
  • The parents’ current Thai National ID Card – the original or 1 copy
  • For a foreign parent, the current passport – the original or 1 copy

Both parents must be present and sign the consent form for the Thai passport for their child.

I never understood this part as they required me present when we applied for a passport too. This while I at the same time was not a legal father yet and visa extensions apparently not possible without being one (anymore). Kind of funny in a way, in one place they consider me the father another they don't. Same I could open saving accounts for my son without issues, on my own.
