Just saw on Thai TV news that 40 vans/taxis have been towed away from Suvarnabhumi after blocking the road, and 50+ illegal taxi drivers carted off to jail.

Anyone have any more details?

Read the front page of the Bkk Post. It's all there. Most aren't, in fact, illegal taxis. Most are legitimate tourist companies complaining about how long it is taking for them to get the required licence to operate at the airport legally.

Yes, from the article I inferred that the legitimate companies were being denied access, yet, as I reported on tv a few days ago, I came through on Saturday morning at 5:30AM and was hit up by a number of rogue taxis outside customs and all the way to the elevator. They're just dressed better now, and have given up being pushy, but are still insistent. Seems there is an ongoing effort to keep the ones that are entrenched for reasons we all understand, and keep out the tour companies from servicing their clients.

Normally, they don't even dare try me, but this time I was accompanied by a business associate, a very large farang with lots of luggage, and we looked a good target.
