THE APPEALS Court this morning (Nov. 2) upheld a verdict to dismiss a case against Mr. Sondhit Limthongkul, co-founder of now defunct People’s Alliance for Democracy (PAD), commonly known as Yellow Shirts, and 20 other members on charges of using force and violence to cause chaos and revolt by besieging and obstructing Parliament to pressure former prime minister Samak Sundaravej to resign and obstructing a parliamentary meeting to prevent his replacement, prime minister Somchai Wongsawat, from announcing his policy statement in 2008, Naewna newspaper said.

The Appeals Court ruled that their assembly was peaceful without any weapons used and were in keeping with the principles of non-violence while also being within their rights under the 2007 Constitution.

The prosecutor had said that from May 25 to October 7, 2008 the defendants persuaded people to rally at the Democracy Monument and create chaos to pressure Samak to resign and prevent Somchai from announcing his policy statement thus should be punished according to Sections 116,215,216,309,310 of the Criminal Court.

The Appeals Court upheld the Criminal Court’s acquittal of 21 former key members of the now defunct People’s Alliance for Democracy (PAD) activist group today. They were accused of laying siege to the parliament to prevent then Prime Minister Somchai Wongsawat from delivering his policy statement in 2008.

The 21 led thousands of protesters in an occupation of Government House between October 5 and 7, 2008, to protest against the government. The protesters later laid siege to parliament.

According to the prosecutors’ charge sheet, the protesters threatened to kidnap the president of the parliament and the Senate speaker, forcing a number of senators to flee parliament. Some parliamentary officials were illegally detained by the protesters, who were also accused of assaulting police on duty at parliament.

The Shinawatra family ran Thailand far better and far more efficiently than ANY military coup government.

They even obeyed the law and stood for election which is something that the military have NEVER done, All THEY do is simply have a military coup and steal the entire country for the benefit of the generals and the HI So's.

Was this the same lot that shut the airports causing untold misery to stranded tourists and poverty to those reliant on incoming money?

Yes, and at the time I said to the wife, who is paying for all those Styrofoam boxes of food for all of the protesters, they were a lot of protesters and an awful lot of empty boxes of food, she said it was her at the top of the ladder, so it is of no surprise that the case was upheld.
