What's your own personal football playing nightmare?

I was 15 and playing for quite a team in London.

We had a cup match in Sevenoaks , Kent , a four hour journey from West London.

The weather was awful, really raining hard and the pitch was cutting up so badly that when the ball dropped it just stayed there.

There were two minutes to go ....we had a corner, the score was 0-0, a place in the London Region semi-final was looming, the ball was driven in low across the box.

The goalkeeper missed it and the defender on the post had slipped trying to clear it, the ball rolled very very S L O W L Y...towards me lurking at the far post, all I had to do was walk it in.......

DISASTER ...as I swung my foot at it my left boot came off in the mud and the ball travelling at no more than 1 mile an hour passed me and a defender booted it out of play for a corner, which came to nothing.

The game finished 0-0....I had to endure serious abuse from the final whilstle for hours until we got home.

Needless to say we lost the replay at home....without a doubt this was my WORST moment as a footballing kid.

I shattered my knee cap whilst playing about 6 months later and spent a month in Stanmore Ortheopedic Hospital ..that was the end of my football playing days.

I was playing full back in the kickers league of the Lord Jersey, you might have heard of it TP, although I am sure you would never have played in it.

Anyway, cup compo, Jersey Shield and I am promoted to the first team, long list of injuries you see , I was very young at the time, you must understand.

This six foot winger decided to give me a belt and then turned for the goal area from the half way line, it took me until the penalty spot to catch him, where I promptly up ended him and a penalty was given.

I was a lot smaller then than I am now, hard to believe I know.

We lost and nobody has ever forgotten or presumably forgiven and I never played for the first team again

Which was a God Send really as I then got into rugby. Ooops, shouldn't have said that.

Was trying to do a stepover. Stomp on the ground too hard, and tore my ACL in the process.
