webfact
A village chief instigated fear and commotion today in Nikhom Patana, Rayong, by firing a gun during a Loy Krathong Festival at a prominent local temple. The incident was reported by 32 year old Chaiwat (no surname given) who claimed he was threatened by Chaiyaporn, the village chief. Chaiwat narrated that he went to the festival around 12.30am yesterday, November 28, to help his wife with her stall. He encountered Chaiyaporn and questioned him about an incident the previous night, November 27, where Chaiyaporn allegedly assaulted Chaiwat’s 31 year old wife Rungthip, who was also selling goods at the festival. However, Chaiyaporn responded by brandishing a small firearm, the size yet unknown, and firing a round into the air. Continually aiming his weapon, he was restrained by others who escorted him away. This show of aggression and disregard for the law was a cause for concern among the locals, reported KhaoSod. by Nattapong Westwood Photo courtesy of KhaoSod Full story: The Thaiger 2023-11-29 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. brianthainess
At our local festival there were at least 4 cops with stab proof vests (maybe bullet proof), why so many feel the need to get completely legless during this festival is beyond me. Mandatory sentencing should be emplaced for breaking gun laws. we will probably never hear what or if any charges are brought against yet another idiot who thinks he is entitled to break the law. Was it a registered firearm or not? Either way he broke the law.
Pouatchee
probably a blank firing starting gun. many years ago i witnessed a fight between thais and one of them took out one of those guns and started firing in the air. the gun actually looked somewhat real
TroubleandGrumpy
I think that the soon to be ex-headman will be seeking revenge due to loss of face (and job/money). If I was the guy involved (and Thai) I would be looking to move and/or getting a weapon to defend myself when he comes looking for me in the future. One day in the very far future, Thailand will be a much more civilised country, where only the very bad ones in the very bad places, will be pulling out guns in an argument. Doing this at a public religious event at a temple - says volumes about Thailand. I am sure the potential Chinese tourists will just love seeing this.
Purdey
Real bullets shot into the air come back down to earth. I believe Kurt Vonnegut wrote a whole novel, Deadeye Dick, exploring the consequences. 1
