Last night I had two pints of 4% beer. First drink in months. By midnight I felt like I had drunk 6! Horrible feeling and definitely not worth it. At least for me, being over 50 seems to make alcohol a low return activity.

It knocks me around cause I cut back. Alcos think 6 is nothing.

Ethanol is ethanol, irrespective of whether it is in beer at 4%, or spirits at 40%. The only reason i can think of for avoiding spirits is, when drunk neat, they are more damaging to the esophagus and stomach.

Correct,

And when I had an operation in 2004 at Bumringrad Hospital for throat cancer, the doctors told me not to drink spirits.

How's the effects, 1 joint a night similar to a 6 pack of beer for a good time?

If you need alcohol at home to feel good, you should urgently see a doctor.

I drink alcohol when I'm out and about, as it enhances sociability, but I don't see how that would be beneficial at home

You're preaching to the wrong guy.
I don't drink alcohol at home.

BTW, Dr Ben
Am I allowed to drink alcohol at night time, say, with the gf enjoying a meal at the restaurant or on the odd occasion out with my mates at a girly bar?

Please Note,

At home......its my gf job to make me feel good. 😎
