Hallo aseannow members,

I’m now in a situation that’s new for me.

I’m living for 22 years in the Netherlands but I was born in Thailand Udon Thani and both of my parents are Thai. I came to the Netherlands when I was 6 and till now I only got a (Thai) passport that now has expired. Back in the days there was no problem to extend it at the embassy in the Netherlands but because of the new rules they told me that I need to have a Thai ID to renew it and I need to travel back to Thailand to fix that, but it’s not that easy. I’m here right now and traveled with my boyfriend with a emergency travel ticket which the embassy can handle it to you one time.

I was at the Vadhana District Office in Bangkok and I had all the right documents they needed from me (house registration blue book, birth certificate, my expired passport) but that wasn’t enough because they need to see/talk with my mom but she’s currently in the Netherlands because of some important reasons it’s impossible for her to come with me. So they needed another family member that can confirm for me that I’m really was born there and they need to know me since I was little and that the process will be easier but my family members still living in Udon so it’s very difficult for them to travel to Bangkok so I had to go back to my birthplace where they still at.

After 15 hours traveling to my birthplace, the morning after I got my first appointment but it wasn’t successful because the officer told me the same thing that they told me in Bangkok. I have to come with my mom because she’s the head owner of the bluebook and she told me she has never handled such a case before and was scared it will failed because she don’t make the decision but someone higher up in Bangkok. After all it took me 6 hours when the officer finally decided that I need to come back the next day with another family members that know me since I was born and can confirm for me.

So I need to gather some family members who would like to help me. I gather my grandma (86) my aunt (60) and uncle (48) and I finally got a appointment with many of paperworks, they interviewed them and took a picture of us. After all they can’t promise me how long the process will take, she said maybe 3 weeks, 1 month of 2 months because the headquarter office in BKK is very busy. I the meantime the officer advices me to stay in Udon because when the headquarter agree I need to come back and take my ID photo at the local authority (Amphuh). That’s giving me a lot of stress because my return ticket is on 20 Dec. and this can cost us or job..

Right now we still in Udon Thani to wait for the process.

Is here anybody with the same case/problem? Or does anyone know how long this will take or any idea? Please, let us know!

Indeed, it seems that nobody reading this topic has had the same experience as you are going through or knows what else to do in this situation in addition to what you are already doing.

Nobody?

I think that bringing in a pujabaan that knew your parents might help to speed up the process. If you find the pujabaan you should propose to let him witness in your Amphur.

A pujabaan is a Thai civil social worker with considerable authority and is used for witnessing marriages, adoptions, etc...

I'm trying to help you out : check out the comment section too from link below.

More here : https://www.reddit.com/r/Thailand/comments/1352485/thai_passport_renewal_now_requires_thai_id_card/

"They will ask why it took you so long to apply, and why you're applying now or something along those lines. I just said something very general, like that my parents never did it for me, I was studying and working in the UK and that I now want to work and live in Thailand and learn thai (this was all translated by my neighbor).

The whole process took about 2-3 hours. Just be very respectful and look smart, especially since our Thai is bad. I was lucky to have a good guy in charge of my application - from what I saw whoever is looking after your application can just deny you if they can't be bothered to really go through it. So very important to have someone who can speak Thai.

Feel free to ask me anymore questions or send me a DM, I know how frustrating this thing is but once you get it is SUCH a relief! Thailand opens up so much more once you have it, I literally landed a job on the evening I got my ID card."

Reinstated. The comment about "troll reply" had sidelined it (don't feed the trolls; report them instead)

You're asking on the wrong forum. Might want to ask on a Thai forum where Thai people use as 100% of the members here are not Thai. We are all foreigners who enjoy living and/or visiting Thailand.
