A pickup truck, carrying six workers, swerved drastically to avoid an oncoming motorbike, resulting in the vehicle flipping and leaving one dead and six injured. The incident occurred around 5pm yesterday, in Chumphon province. Manoch Plodkankan, an investigative officer from the Lang Suan Police Station, was among the first to arrive at the scene.

The accident happened off the Asian Highway 41 at the intersection of Ban Khuan-Na Phya Road. The pick-up, a half-tonne Toyota model with Bangkok license plate number TCJ 8112, had veered into a water-filled ditch.

The front bumper was found detached from the vehicle, the roof above the driver’s seat was crushed, and the windscreen shattered. The stainless-steel fence of the truck bed was also damaged. The seven occupants of the vehicle, all workers, were scattered in different directions across the road, crying out in pain.

Initial first aid was provided to all injured, among whom was a woman approximately 50 years old, later identified as 54 years old, Sawas Promjinda. She was unresponsive, and despite receiving cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), she succumbed to her injuries upon reaching Lang Suan Hospital. The other six people suffered from minor injuries such as broken arms, dislocated shoulders, and various bruises.

So... an overloaded truck, driver speeding, overtakes towards and oncoming motorcycle and swerves 'murdering' one of his passengers, none of whom were likely to be wearing seatbelts.

Its sad that the consequences of this will likely be minimal and it will just be considered an 'accident' rather than what it really is..

.. death by dangerous driving.

The motor cyclist is responsible, at least in part.

In the same manner that there is a bar-stool myth that states 'foreigners are always at fault for the accident for if they were not there, there would have been no accident'....

How could a motorcyclist riding in the opposite directly possibly be at fault (even in part) for a van driver deciding to overtake into him and having to swerve ?????

How on earth did you come to that conclusion?

'Somphon had attempted to overtake a car but had to swerve violently to avoid a motorbike coming from the opposite direction'.

Try reading the full story before making stupid comments.

'The accident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of careful driving to ensure the safety of all road users, reported KhaoSod'.

It should also serve as a stark reminder that a 2 door pick up is commercial vehicle and should only be carrying one passenger, seated in the cab alongside the driver.

Agreed..   But as a society, sadly Thailand is in no way mature enough for that yet.

From laborers piled in to trucks, school kids overloaded into a Song-Thaew, family's heading into town, 10 of them wedged into the flat bed.

Then there is the 'balance' of what is safer, any of the above, or all those 'passengers' on motorcycles without helmets.

The key issue of course os the safety of the driving itself....  Here we have an idiot driving dangerously, its the fools driving like this who are an accident waiting to happen...

Why?  Based on the report, he would be no more responsible for the accident than you are.

Not likely to be any seatbelts in the back of a pick-up!
