BANGKOK, Dec 27 (TNA) – With the long holidays approaching, Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Anutin Charnvirakul has opened the Road Safety Operations Center for the 7-day New Year danger prevention period.

The center, which will operate from Dec 29 to Jan 4 serves as a hub for collecting information to prevent and reduce road accidents during the New Year period.

Anutin stated that the Interior Ministry is fully prepared this year. They have conducted meetings with various network organizations and promoted the campaign to encourage people, who drink to refrain from driving instead of the ban on drunk driving.

Ah good, they're taking it seriously - they have got a hub up and running.

Did they initiate proceedings by trooping outside to the big blue tent, opening and browsing Shopee on their phones whilst quaffing a large iced coffee delivered by a 7/11 girl on a scooter?

At 10:30 AM, on December 27th, 2023, Mr. Anutin Charnvirakul, the Deputy Prime Minister, and relevant agencies held a conference on the initiative of prevention measures to reduce road accidents for the safety of drivers during the New Year holidays.

Anutin publicly revealed that the Thai government regarded the safety of drivers a top priority, especially during the New Year holidays as many people travel to their hometowns or visit tourist attractions. The risk of road accidents might occur more than usual.

The Thai government has integrated all relevant agencies to enforce road safety measures during the New Year’s celebrations. The purpose is to reduce road accidents, casualties, and injury rates to at least 5% compared to the statistics during the same period of the last 3 years, said Anutin.

The scooter girl never made it. She was involved in a vehicle collision. No helmet. One of the Minister's ready-mix concrete trucks delivered the drinks.

Pedant head on - I can divert with the best of 'em - but I have noticed that 7/11 delivery drivers, in fact virtually all delivery drivers wear helmets. Company policy perhaps?

AKA as a further excuse to pay police overtime for playing on their phones whilst ignoring the myriad of traffic offences yards away.

I wonder what the cue/trigger is for when they all decide to wear their phraratchathan costume or a suit/tie combo.

My guess is it depends on the announcement, anything that might go international, western garb. Anything they think will only be local news gets the local fancy dress.

And is that Sretta checking to see if his shocks are showing?.. they have to be showing at all times, that's his "thing" now.

Can someone explain this please.

Opening DLT's that actually train people to be competant on the roads would be a good start. In combination with a system that bans people who are caught drink driving, driving without a licence and without insurance might start to reduce deaths on the roads.

Statistically "low hanging fruit."

A minimum target of 30% and an upper target of 60% would be a significant goal. So the 5% seems more of a "check the government success box" for re-election.
