I just mailed my passport to the US embassy in BKK using this process 2 days ago using Thai post. I received a tracking number for that and know they have received it. I also purchased a return envelope as instructed using ThailandPostMart.com. I received two emails both of which gave me a THP # like you have above but no mail tracking number that I can use here Track And Trace : EMS : Thailand Post I printed and included those emails but I have no idea how to track my return envelope. How do I get a tracking number for it?

I am confused about one thing on the US passport online process.

Regarding the Courier Pass Back from Thailand Post. Do I have that sent to me and forward it to the US embassy or do I have that sent to the US embassy?

I have printed the forms and paid for the passport already, and want to get this going

Thanks

from the checklist...

Pay Courier Pass Back electronically via Thailand Post Mart website.  (If the page appears in Thai, you may use a translate function into English at        the top right corner of the page.)  Please provide invoice number THP________________________ Note: Prepaid envelope cannot be accepted if you are applying for a U.S. passport in Thailand

Yes I see that and that is the problem. I have an invoice # and am having the Courier pass sent to my home, but it seems I should send it to the US Embassy, as it states, Prepaid envelope cant be accepted if applying in Thailand. Kind of confusing.

Anybody done it recently?

Please, include a copy of payment confirmation email in your application package. An actual envelope will be delivered to U.S. Embassy in Bangkok/ U.S. Consulate in Chiang Mai for returning your document.

Provide the invoice number and confirmation email. If you think you screwed up buy another one, it's only 100 THB.

I like the way you think and thanks. So I purchased the Courier Pass Back, what was confusing is that I gave my address here in BKK for delivery.  I now see that the Pass Back is sent to the US embassy.  Thai Post wanted my address so the embassy can mail it back to me. So I will include this.

Pretty amazing you cant even talk to the US embassy American Services about this, to me its just not clear.

Some big changes affecting how you mail your US passport in for renewal. 1. You may no longer use Thai Post EMS. They have signs up that as of September 2024 you must go to DHL.  But not any DHL, only the ones the accept E commerce tracking. The  big one near me in Muang Thong Thani does not and it has the best English speaking staff around. They only do international,

So be careful you buy the Courier Pass Back envelope from Thai Post, but you cannot send to the embassy with Thai Post EMS. Only DHL and only DHL that accept E-Commerce packaging.

That really sucks, would think this would make it very inconvenient for the majority of people

What makes it even worse is you can no longer talk to a human at the embassy or American Services. It must be a major emergency. If you email them they do reply, but you cant even reply to the email.

I think I am going to email and advise them to let the American Community know of these changes. A 15 minute job turned into 3.5 hours today.

This is the problem bro, I was at EMS Center on Changwattana at 9:00am today and was told no along with two others, one being a Thai/American citizen so there were no translation problems. The one lady that could speak basic English pointed to the sign that was very clear. US embassy does not accept passport documents vis EMS you must go to DHL.  We all walked away.

well than they better get off their rear ends at the embassy and get it updated. I live at best 50 kms from the nearest DHL office, they sure know how to make things difficult,

It's a joke really.

To rub it in....I recently renewed my Oz passport.

You can do the whole thing online.

In addition current pp is not sent with application.

Don't understand why USA, Canada etc require you submit existing pp.

Also the mail part was just EMS Thai post.

A casual stroll to local mall.

BTW for Oz folk process time from post to return address delivery in Bangkok was 20 days.

It is BS being that before Covid the American Services at the embassy were great. Fast in person service for passports. Well the only good thing about the US process is the fee is $130.00 usd.  I see Australians are now paying $412.00 ad

Doesn't make sense. Need to get it clarified. Right this moment, embassy website shows this. No announcement from their end about any changes.

It was my experience this morning. My mistake was in not taking a picture of the announcement, I will be going shopping Saturday near there again and get the photo and post it up.

Why not just send with DHL?

Thanks for your clarifications. Noted only one DS 82 needed.

On the Checklist page it states: Checklist must be completed and included in the package
Current passport book and/or passport card (if applicable) Required, NO EXCEPTIONS
& one clear photocopy of bio-data page (my emphasis)

Is this information incorrect? The checklist does NOT need to be included in the package, nor a copy of the passport "Bio" page? Thanks.

BOTH are needed to be sent w/the application

You SEND your application paperwork to the US Embassy by EITHER EMS or DHL...I sent mine late Dec via EMS.  You purchase via Thai Post Mart the RETURN envelope which Thai Post will send to the US Embassy to send your new passport to you.

WRONG. I sent my passport renewal application to the US Embassy via Thai Post EMS late December AND received from the Embassy an email acknowledging their receipt within a week.

My best guess is that you can send your renewal package to the USEMB BKK via ThaiPost EMS or DHL.

But for the return you still need to purchase the 100 baht ThaiPost Mart 'package'.

Step 8:  Mail all the items listed above to the U.S. Embassy in Bangkok.

You must mail your DS-82 passport renewal package to U.S. Embassy Bangkok per the address below via one of the following couriers (Thailand Post and DHL) or else your package will be rejected. Please ensure that you receive a tracking number from the courier for your mailed package. Do not send packages to the U.S. Consulate Chiang Mai, only the U.S. Embassy Bangkok processes mail-in passport renewals.

It seems the US Embassy assumes that every American is computer literate, owns a computer and printer and has no cognitive issues.

They assume everyone is, or knows someone who is.
