A 3 year old boy died yesterday after falling from the fourth floor balcony of a apartment in Soi Rama II 50 in the Bang Khun Thian district of Bangkok. Police suspect the mother was involved in the tragic death due to some suspicious evidence.

The Ruam Katanyu Rescue Team and Tha Kham Police Station were alerted to the fall at around 6pm yesterday, January 10, and rushed to the scene. Officers met with 22 year old Thai woman Nareerat, and the lifeless body of the three year old boy named Gun outside the five-storey apartment.

Nareerat told officers in tears that her son fell from the balcony of their room on the fourth floor of the apartment. She explained that she had three sons aged seven years old, three years old, and nine months old. Her eldest son was at school and she was looking after the other two sons on the day of the incident as her husband went to work.

According to Nareerat, the three year old boy woke up at around 4pm and ran to the balcony because he heard other children from the community playing outside the apartment. The boy stood on the laundry basket to see the children downstairs.

What is the Mother suspected of doing and why do they suspect her ?

As per the linked report...  reading between the lines it would appear that there may be some suspicion on the part of the Police that the child was deceased before the fall, based on the comments that 'there were no traces of blood where the boy fell'....

Quote

Officers reported that they had found some suspicious points in the case, for example, there were no traces of blood where the boy fell.

Police reported that they found no wounds on the boy’s body, adding they will not close the case until the results of the autopsy are available.

If the boy died instantly , wouldn't that mean that no blood would flow, because the heart had stopped ?

From the link:

Nareerat said she rushed to bring him back into the room and told him not to go out on the balcony again. However, the boy went out again when she was in a bathroom with her nine month old son. Nareerat guessed the boy stood on the basket and fell.

One would think a mother would have closed the access to the balcony and made sure this couldn't happen..

Also the place where the child fell showed no signs of impact or blood?

No, blood wouldn't be pumped but gravity would kick in if there was a wound and it would run out.

What if there was no wound , say a broken neck was the cause of instant death ?

What if?

Who knows? That is why the police have decided to withhold judgement until the autopsy is done,

I do think that its unfair on the Mother to label her as being a suspect this early in the case, there could be a logical explanation

Sadly if a three-year-old fell off a balcony in its mother's care, there is only one person responsible whether it is neglect or foul play.

The reporting is typically sensational and irresponsible either way

Again

There's a huge difference between being responsible for neglect and being responsible for the actual death , like one is leaving the door open and the other is the Mother throwing the kid of the balcony

Obviously, you didn't read the full, linked Thaiger article...that or you can't read.

When we lived at the Parkland Bangna a womans dog on the 7th, top floor, jumped out of the window, splat onto the concrete. She always meant to get window screen, but 6 months latter the baby crawled across the bed pushed up against the same window and went the same way. Its often just stupidity.

When family visited a few years ago they stayed in decent hotel suite with 2 bedrooms...

Knowing how Thailand delivers on 'gloss' but fails with safety I insisted on checking the rooms.

In the 'children's room' two beds were up against the window (high floor) with no locking mechanism on the window (not even a switch).

All the children had to do was stand on the bed 'lean' on the window with sidewards pressure and the windows would open, with the opening at waist height as the toddlers stood on the bed.

Hotel staff did not seem concerned in the slightest until I pointed out that we'd cancel the stay and move else where.

Maintenance were then called and to my astonishment, did not install a window lock, but instead screwed the windows completely shut so they could never be opened again (without tools) - this did the trick and all other 'aspects' were safe... But the issue did highlight the glaring oversight of or consideration for the most basic of safety standards.
