Train driver killed as train hit truck in Nakhon Sawan last night

North-bound rail services are disrupted today, after a train crashed into a truck and trailer at a level crossing in Chum Saeng district of Nakhon Sawan last night, killing the train driver and injuring a mechanic.

According to the public relations office of the State Railway of Thailand, train No. 109 left Bangkok’s Bang Sue railway terminal for Chiang Mai last night and crashed into the truck and trailer, carrying a backhoe, which had become stuck on a level crossing between Khlong Pla Kod and Chum Saeng stations.

The collision derailed the locomotive and brought the whole train to a sudden stop. Other train services have been disrupted as a result of the accident.

So I take it the crossing was un-manned and therefore an emergency notification to the the train was not possible or a call to change alert signals on the line?

professional truck driver ...

... STOP  LOOK LISTEN ...

do you really need a manned RR crossing.  Common sense has kept me from kissing a train.

That was 1 idiot's fault, and really hard to even call that an accident.  Suicide maybe :coffee1:

Sucks for the train operator ... R I P

How on earth did he get stuck on a crossing?

And this nation of driving experts want high speed trains.

What on earth was this moron doing on a train crossing? How do you get stuck on a train crossing, did his truck stall, did he run out of gas, what on earth happened? Typically truck drivers have skills, and situational awareness. They are capable of causing massive destruction if they don't exercise those qualities. Obviously this guy didn't. Sympathies to the family of the train conductor.

Unfortunately, train crossing accidents happen all over the world....

however,  the article is about an accident in Thailand,  not all over the world.

but thank's for your contribution.

How many level crossing accidents has the ARL had since it opened? How many times has a BTS train hit a car?

High speed trains do not have lever crossings.

I would think that the truck could have got over unloaded, but with the makro on the flat bed, the body sank a bit. If the rail track was raised then there would have been a slope, and normally 3 axle trucks are only 1 axle, 2 wheel drive using the middle axle for the driving wheels. If they get lifted clear, and the truck is balanced on the front (steering) wheels, and the third axle is not driven, then the truck cannot go forwards or backwards under its own power, and is therefore stuck.

The train having nowhere to go but on the rails, would had nowhere else to go but into the truck. Trying to stop a perhaps, 200 ton train, is not quick or easy, hence the collision. The train driver probably thought that the truck only had to move maybe 10 metres forwards or backwards, not realising that the truck was stuck until too late.

I feel sad for the train driver and his family and the crew and passengers on the train as it really was not their fault.

The trains are not the problem.

It is the stupid drivers who HAVE to race the train and be first, that are the problem.

And the accidents are mainly caused by the vehicle drivers and NOT the trains or drivers.

We should all bow to your superior knowledge as you must have been on the scene at the time and given the truck driver the benefit of your complete medical training.

The alternative is a very poor and sad attempt at humour in a situation where a person has died and others were injured.

However your post is at the abysmal level that I have come to expect from you.
