webfact
The Chinese New Year holiday has brought 13.3% more foreign tourists to the kingdom, according to Thailand’s tourism ministry. Tourism minister Sudawan Wangsuphakitkoson says that during the period of February 5 – 11, Thailand enjoyed a surge in visitor numbers, in particular from short and regional medium haul countries. Visitor numbers were up from China, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Singapore, Taiwan and South Korea, when compared to the week before. In total, Thailand welcomed 872,235 foreign arrivals, up 102,227 compared to the previous week. retarius
One of the really great thing about have an economic collapse a la COVID is that your growth numbers for the next few years look great, because you are growing from a low base. More relevant is the question how do today's numbers compare to pre-COVID numbers ie to 2019. If we have 13.3% growth from those numbers that would be great, but if as I suspect, there is minimal, zero, or negative growth since 2019, that Thailand is not doing any sort of good job economically as, it seems, almost everywhere else in the world has already recovered their tourists. Thank you to the junta for its dismal and incompetent performance

Stocky
Quote China led the way with 194,275 between February 5 – 11, Malaysia with 125,686, Russia with 48,826, South Korea with 48,643, and India with 36,793. They were all in Hat Yai judging by the gridlock all the Malaysian buses and cars caused over the weekend.

Karma80
We've come down to comparing week-on-week growth. Just when you don't think the TAT can be more desperate, they always surprise.
Sigmund
The chinks Chinese rarely spend in any business in Thailand, other then those run by Chinese, who usually send back part of the profit money to China. Guess one will be hearing more loud sounds of arguments, throat clearing and spitting during the next fortnight ? Gknrd
Thailand has based their complete existence on China! Political, tourism, etc. I would imagine main players are praying for China's speedy recovery about now. Edited February 14 by Gknrd
DonniePeverley
There are no hand breaks to halt tourism now and the sheer volume of numbers, after the visa waves for China and India. If you look at how horrific the situation in Phuket is and how miserable things are out there for anyone living there, i doubt the powers care. Pack in as many people as we can, good or bad seems the mantra. Someone has to pay for the revenue lost from visas fees, and other spending. They are on course now to smash 40-50 million people a year.
