Schools are for learning. The existence of gay people is not in contention. Nor is public intolerance for then in TN. Raising awareness and empathy for gay people would be considered appropriate in any sane state or country. Raindow flags don't turn kids gay. Explain what adverse affects could potentially arise from the display of those flags. Is is not activism. Gay hate is a major problem for gay people. Educators are aware of the issue. The good 'ol boys in TN not so much. Meanwhile, displaying confederate flags everywhere and naming schools after traitors seems not to be an issue.

Otherwise, where do you draw the line?  Maybe a MAGA flag?  (that would cause exploding heads)  Or how about an Israeli flag, or a Palestinian flag?  Or, down south, a confederate flag?  Or whatever cause de jour...

I think it depends entirely on the academic context.

For example in a classroom teaching Spanish, I think displaying the flags of all the Spanish speaking nations including the USA would be both conducive to learning and charming.

Do they still teach geography in US public schools? If so, flags from every country would be appropriate, along with a line or two about the meaning of each.

I think pedophile (or paedophile depending on where you are from) refers more specifically to creeps that are sexually attracted to prepubescent children. Sadly, the left is so stupid it has become common to use it to describe anyone sexually attracted to a minor, so per your definition, anyone attracted to a 17-year-old, would be a pedophile.

 

Being sexually attracted to children is not illegal, but adult having sex with a child/minor would legally be a child molester. In the event the victim was a prepubescent child/minor, the perpetrator would be a child molester (a crime) and a pedophile. (not a crime)
