Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin does not criticise or envy Singapore for its success in convincing Taylor Swift to perform six concerts exclusively in Singapore this month, Government Spokesman Chai Wacharonke said today.

Instead, he said the prime minister praised Singapore for its bold decision and business acumen for doing something unexpected and urged other people who promote tourism in their countries to study Singapore’s strategy.

Singapore is believed to have paid Swift’s team US$2-3 million per show, in exchange for not performing in other Southeast Asian cities.

Financially smart on Taylor Swifts part

$3 million per show

While Singapore has declined to share how much it paid for the exclusive rights to the Eras Tour, the prime minister of Thailand said publicly that Singapore had shelled out up to $3 million per show. (Swift is playing six sold-out shows in the country.)12 hours ago

Well, the PM started this little war a few weeks ago by insinuating that the Singapore Government and Swift's management team had colluded.

Now that he looks like a whiney little loser he's gone all passive-aggressive.

Thailand has no facility capable of hosting the ERAs tour. Nor does Bangkok have the infrastructure to support such an event.

And because of the endemic corruption in Thailand, money usually flows from promoters to the government, hence the PM is "shocked" at Singapore's strategy.

I think he'd rather have a submarine that would please the RTN. Such are priorities in Thailand.

The government spent $3 millions resulted in hotels fully booked, flooding tourist, busy restaurants and tourist attractions. 3 million dollars for an economy booster shot on a low tourist season after chinese new year, I would like to think that it is money well spent.

Thailand should grab future opportunity and offer 5 millions since it's a huge country but I worried will Taylor will get the amount at the end of the day.

You are the one that stirred the pot trying to signaled possible corruption/bribery 2 weeks ago... have you checked your own backyard?

The Thai government simply would not have the creative juice to put together a deal like that, and in addition to that they don't have a venue that would be sufficient for an event like that.

Regardless, what this hapless PM should be doing is focusing on improving the air quality which has degenerated to the point where it's a national emergency. Perhaps sitting in his Ivory Tower and being shuttled around by helicopters, its easier to turn a blind eye to the many problems plaguing this nation.
