On 13 March 2024, the Tourism Authority of Thailand joined hands with the Indian Association of Thailand for a networking event and gala dinner to highlight the upcoming Holi Festival in Thailand, scheduled to take place between 22-24 March 2024 in Bangkok and Pattaya.

It was a pleasure for me to attend the event along with Mr. Kitti Chaondee, Secretary to the Minister of Tourism and Sports, Mr. Surayut Thaweekulwat, Advisor to the Prime Minister, Mr. Supoj Wongjarasawee, Advisor to the Minister of Tourism and Sports. Mr. Kankanit Haewsanti, Advisor to the Minister of Culture, Mr. Dharmendra Singh, First Secretary (Economic and Commercial), Embassy of India Bangkok, Ms. Yaowalak Pimphanit, Director of the Office of Culture and Tourism Bangkok City Governorate and Mr. Worapot Phongphali, Advisor to the Mayor of Pattaya City along with many other distinguished guests and media representatives.

The dinner was preceded in the afternoon with a B2B Business Matching activity between Thailand-based travel agencies/DMCs and Thai tourism operators providing services to the Indian market, such as hotels, airlines, entertainment, etc. That was attended by more than 120 travel trade personnel.

Thailand: The HUB of Indian Festivals.

Holi festival in Thailand, if they could string this out for 21 days they can roll straight into Songkran to wash off the colouring.

Holi is a far more colourful and enjoyable festival in India than Songkran is in Thailand. There is music, dancing, singing, lots of water colours and coloured powder, much embracing of friends - and yes, a fair amount of a flavoured drink which contains cannabis paste (esp in North India). Songkran - which, btw comes from the Sanskrit word "Sankranti" from the Hindu and Buddhist calendar - is a relatively pale affair. Go to India to really enjoy it, preferably with Indian friends and their families.
