March 26, 20241 yr The Bangkok South Criminal Court ordered the acquittal today of former prime minister Chuan Leekpai on a defamation charge, filed against him by ex-premier Thaksin Shinawatra. The court case dates back to October 28, 2012, when Chuan, during his lecture at the opening of the Democrat party’s political school at the Mada Plaza Hotel, blamed Thaksin for the flare-up of armed violence in the Deep South, culminating in the attack by insurgents on an military armoury on January 4, 2004, during which 400 assault rifles were stolen. This has since been followed by a string of violent incidents, resulting in the deaths of more than 7,500 innocent civilians, government officials, members of the security forces and insurgents. March 26, 20241 yr I met Chuan at Trat Aiport a few years back by chance - sought him out, did a big wai and said he was one of the best PM's that Thailand had had. (lying of course) he and his party were greatly amused by a farang recognising and bigging him up and got a great photo with him as a result. He said you are a very clever farang - thank you !
