Never been an expat in Cambodia, but have travelled it extensively, and I believe you. Saw some really weird stuff there.. Could be an overflow from Thailand, some probably attracted to the cheaper alcohol, and as you said, some no longer able to qualify for an extended stay in Thailand..

Have a mate who's just returned from a fairly expensive holiday... All inclusive, free flow booze throughout the day and evening etc.

One point he made.... no one was getting hammered, overdoing it and and acting like a t!t....

Cost is a great filter of undesirables - its been said that Singapore has a better 'quality' of expat than Thailand, and here it is (in this thread) being said that Thailand has a better quality of expat than places such as Cambodia which speaks volumes...

ไม่น่าแปลกใจเลยที่คนขี้เมาเหล่านี้ไม่มีการศึกษา...

Because his name is irrelevant.

Names of assailants, except for minors, are routine in all journalism. Do you think the person who attacked is a 13 year old.

There are more than a few mentally unstable people roaming the streets. Thai and foreigners. Don't know how events unfolded here, but you can never be too careful around people you don't know. Sorry to say.

More and more people are going crazy these days. What happened, I wonder?

This is already old "news".

It has finally got into the Thai news.

Well, I dont know what is happening in Thailand, but just red, a Belgian fresh retiree was bashed by a German in Hua Hin !

He is in hospital now and had 13 hour surgery. His skull was broken on 10 places ! In coma now for the next 8 months.

However the news is only on a Belgian news site, cant find in any Thai news.

The same German already did a Britain too, but he was lucky.

Give you Belgian site, you can always translate https://www.vrt.be/vrtnws/nl/2024/04/11/zinloos-geweld-thailand/

And VRT is an official site.

What would be the conclusion of all? Thailand attracts violent people or when you are living in Thailand, you get violent?

Maybe nr 1? As Thailand once also let in Joran vd Sloot, alleged Nathalie Holloway killer.

And what he did there? Trading in girls for prostitution.

It is weird it is not (yet?) in Thai news.

Weird the German didnt get kicked out (action before with Britain), not even arrested now(not in article)!

How can you rhyme this ? I cant.

Sihanoukville was the worst I saw in Cambodia. They call them 'deathpats'. People who have washed up in the last place that accepts them. Maybe they have been pushed along by now with the Chinese development.

Saw one room with bloody swabs all over on the pillow and bed when looking to rent a room.

They seem to be preyed upon by other expats and maybe locals as well. They just go down hill with booze and drugs and end up in a tiny cheap room, usually close to a grungy entertainment area like Victory Hill, or one of those places near the water where there is nothing. Not the same as Pattaya and similar, it's much worse.

Strange things blowing in on the wind there, strange smells, especially along deserted dirt roads. Could feel something in the breeze. Felt like...lack of hope, for lack of a better word.

Siem Reap and PP was Ok for me if you stay in a decent place.

The Chinese ruined Sihanoukville and left it unhabitable and suffering even more lawlessness than before.

There are partially constructed buildings that have been left and will never be completed once the authorities clamped down on Casino gambling, which in turn was replaced by call centres, slave labour and racketeering.

The original Cambodians were pushed out and relocated years ago when it became unaffordable for them. Anything that Sihanoukville had to offer, which wasn't a great deal, has now gone.

Quite a large number of failed Thailand expats now trawl the streets of Phnom Penn and Siem Reap as the visa arrangements are much easier and no need for cash in the bank.

There must be something that provoked this I hope he pulls through and is able to assist in the attack.

More BS. Many people get attacked without provocation, latest example Bondi shopping centre.

Because the names of assailants are part of the basic news story. Know the name of the doctor kicker, don't we? The cop who ran over the woman eye specialist? The Swiss who beat up a Thai woman in a grocery store. It's basic journalism. Not to mention that knowing who he is could bring additional witnesses or people who may have had a run in with him in the past.  Why would you not want to know his name?

Because I, like many other posters, live nowhere near Hua Hin and are unlikely to ever visit there.

It seems that the police know who he is, have arrested him and he is in custody. The chances of anybody here actually meeting him are around 99% of never.

Knowing his name makes no difference at all. He probably did not even know the name of the Belgian guy that he attacked from what I can glean from the reports that I have read.

60 odd years of age and attacked from behind what a cowardly way to attack a person of that age . Here is hoping the victim will survive and recover to full health but a 13 hour brain operation is not looking good . I hope they have apprehended the coward who did this attacks and send him to the Bangkok Hilton for a long stay !

Are they able to do diffucult surgery like this in Hua Hin? What hospital would that be?
