60GB is low if watching videos and streaming

Is your girlfriend Thai?

Did she read about GOMO (AIS network)? (registration only with Thai ID card).

https://gomo.th/

150 GB (unlimited speed, 3G, 4G, 5G) for 999 incl tax. usable for one year.

If used up additional volume can be bought.

I have purchased through the daughter.

As I use mobile data only when "on the road" the 150 GB will likely be enough for the year.

Yes, she is Thai and I did see the gomo but she needs 100gb per month.

I saw the gomo 150gb advertised for around 500 baht for yearly use.

So buy a different one if that is what you need. This one is only used for security cameras.

Go into your router settings and it should show you. On some models it's possible to set limits and adjust the measurment period to tie in with the billing period etc.

I only have a basic Huawei router from the ISPand it doesn't show usage. The Win 10 page shows me using more than 200GB per month on "system" alone, which is madness. Anyone any idea what that might be about?  I will soon want a data SIM and obviously they won't give me that kind of total.

I don't often watch movies or stream, just a couple of 1GB-ish downloads in a typical month, but those are separately shown under the relevant browsers and together are nothing like 200GB.

What "system usage" could explain that kind of amount?

My girlfriend can do that on here telephone, streaming her Thai crap.

If you think it's high, maybe you have a Russian hacker who is stealing bandwidth. Try changing your password.

Why would another user be recorded on my pooter? The 200GB is attributed to my machine (below is a few hours from yesterday).

I do use antivirus and similar tools, of course.

I’m an IT novice, please be gentle with me!

For the last couple a years I’ve purchased a TrueMove 12 month data SIM. Many variation available , mine was 100Gb/ month rated at 6Mps which I considered a reasonable deal at about 1,400 bht for 12 months service.

in practice download speed has been variable and often well below the stated 6Mps.

I’m due for a renewal and have heard the AIS and maybe Detac have more reliable speeds.

Does anyone have first hand experience of a well performing SIM?

Many TIA

Not sure how familiar you are with the TeleCom industry in general but in MOST cases, there was a single TeleCom group that laid and own the main cables that connect the world. In the states it's AT&T. In Thailand it's AIS.

Point is, I have both. I pay 62THB a month for my Thai phone and SIM (and can/do use it from states) It's always best to go with the original if you can IMHO. :wai:

Only works on band 40 and is data only so then you can use a cheap 7/11 SIM for phone calls but most people use voip

I don't think the 12 month ones are available any longer.  The options available as of last week were listed here:

Can anyone recommend any 12 month sim deals starting next week for when we arrive back in Thailand. I will need one for myself, my wife and son.

Thanks in advance!

What's the best network at your intended location? What are your requirements in terms of speed, data volume and calls?

DTAC Unlimited 6Mbps with Unlimited calls to any network(up to 15 minutes per call) is a good package for a young person, as he won't run out of data and can call you anytime, even if he has no credit. https://www.lazada.co.th/products/infinity-6mbps-1-1-sim-net-5g-melonthaimall-i4238449690-s16738445132.html

For the adults, maybe this one: https://www.wpnmobile.com/category/1312-592/ซิมเทพธอร์-เลือกเบอร์

Unlimited internet, no expiration, no limit,  up to 15Mbps

Free calls to all networks 60 minutes/month (720 minutes/year)

Free calls within the True network 24 hours a day (not more than 30 minutes per call, unlimited for 1 year)

Free TrueID ULTIMATE package 85 channels, watch movies, series, cartoons in HD quality (except for Premium movies, you have to buy an additional package)

Free WiFi .@TRUEWIFI for 1 full year (press *871*4# to receive the WiFi code and TrueID)

There are cheaper options with a limited volume of data(up to 100GB per month)

A bad idea. That's for fixed point Internet, not for mobile use.

Oh you are so WRONG!!!

Since when has 4G LTE been fixed point?

I use one SIM in my mobile for music, grab, voip and one SIM in my tablet for streaming IPTV.

Siganal strength is the same, or beter, than True, download speedtest to Europe exceeds 60Mb/s and monthly data is a genuine unlimmited as I use about 250GB/m

What are you actually using it for? If it is for things like YouTube then you dont actually need a SIM.

Yep.

Some people are lucky that this band 40 is in reach with proper signal strength.

It's not simply "4G" but this specific band/frequency.

A mate has this package against my advice.

Now when he sits at a local cafe, want to call him on a messenger.

"Can not, not good here".

Recently he was at Pizza Hut at the local Lotus mall.

Want to call him. "Can not, not good here"

Story repeats again and again.

Thanks for your reply, much appreciated.  I have no idea what the best network is at our location in Bangkok. Perhaps you guys have more knowledge about that?

That DTAC deal looks ideal for my son, and the WPN sims look like great value for money adults great recommendations!

Generally speaking would you say it's just as good to order a sim online via Lazada or similar as opposed to going into a bricks and mortar True shop for example?

I can hardly believe that someone actually agreed with that nonsense. It's a Fixed Point service on Band 40 only. It cannot be relied upon for MOBILE usage. There are even clues in the marketing; NT Wireless as opposed to NT Mobile. It even has a restriction that no service is guaranteed above the 5th floor.

https://www.ntmobile.in.th/en/OtherPromotion/969.aspx

So, yes if you find a good location with a suitable device you can get good speeds, but it isn't a MOBILE service. It is marketed as fixed point Internet. I know about it as I was the first to recommend it to people who wanted an inexpensive option at home.

The official shops don't have access to the same deals. Networks have a different distribution system for Independents.

It is only for network, can use it in a phone or sim router, no mobile tel calls but you need to check if there is nt/tot mobile network in your area and areas you will visit.

Other 12 month sim card prices have increased dramatically from 1 year ago.

I agree. I bought an AIS 5G net Sim on Lazada last year for 1500. This year it was 1800 and the monthly about of Gb was less.
