Britain Pledges £3 Billion Annual Military Support to Ukraine Indefinitely

British Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, David Cameron, has made a resolute commitment to provide Ukraine with substantial military aid, announcing an annual allocation of £3 billion ($3.74 billion) for as long as necessary. In an interview with Reuters during an impromptu visit to Kyiv on May 2nd, Cameron underscored Britain's unwavering support for Ukraine in its struggle for sovereignty and security.

 

"We will give £3 billion every year for as long as is necessary. We've just really emptied all we can in terms of giving equipment," Cameron affirmed, highlighting the scale and longevity of the aid package, which marks the largest commitment from the UK to date.

 

The announcement follows British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak's unveiling of a comprehensive military assistance package for Ukraine on April 23rd. This package includes a substantial array of equipment, comprising 60 boats, over 400 vehicles (including 160 protected mobility 'Husky' vehicles and 162 armored vehicles), 78 all-terrain vehicles, over 1,600 strike and air defense missiles, and nearly four million rounds of small arms ammunition.

 

Cameron emphasized the immediate impact of this assistance, noting that some of the equipment is already en route to Ukraine, underscoring the urgency of the situation.

 

In a significant statement, Cameron affirmed Ukraine's right to utilize the weapons supplied by London, including the option to target locations within Russia. However, he emphasized that the decision on how to utilize this military aid ultimately rests with Kyiv, reflecting Britain's stance in empowering Ukraine to defend its sovereignty and determine its own course of action in the face of external threats.

 

Britain's unwavering commitment to supporting Ukraine with substantial military assistance underscores the solidarity between the two nations and reinforces their shared determination to safeguard Ukraine's territorial integrity and independence in the face of ongoing challenges.

I’m so glad my daughters and their friends have been travelling around Asia for the past year, not needing to pay back their student loans. The British government obviously don’t need the money.

I think Britain should mobilize along with France and immediately send the majority of their military forces to the front lines in Ukraine in order to accomplish what neither Napoleon Bonaparte or Germany could accomplish in the past. Their generals could drop off the 3 billion quid with Zelensky as they pass through Kiev where the money will no doubt be funneled directly into paying the salaries of brave Ukrainian volunteer soldiers fighting on the front for liberty and democracy.
Britain and France are the greatest fighting forces in the West.  So go show those ill-equipped, low-morale Ruskie conscripts fighting with 50 year old, rusting Soviet equipment which barely function by using IC chips from washing machines a thing or two!  Brave French and British patriots with the most modern and expensive Western military hardware in the world advancing shoulder-to-shoulder across the Novorossiya steppes will scare Ivan right back to the Urals and will bring Western "freedom, democracy, and a rules-based international order" to those backward Cossack once and for all.  Grrrr - go get them boys!

In the meanwhile, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu who has consistently referred to Russian military tactics in Ukraine as "active defense" is now referring to military operations as "offensive."  Not that words matter to backward, borsch-eating Russians.  Highly trained French and British troops would cut through Ruskie lines like a hot-knife through butter.  It would be even better if their forces were led by Macron and Sunak backed by defense ministers Sébastien Lecornu and David Cameron, all mounted on horse-back, swords in hands and waving the French Tri-color and British Union-Jack from the highest hill, urging their brave, shining troops forward to put an end to "Russian aggression" once and for all.  What a magnificent sight that would be!!!
 

Ivan would drop his rusty, malfunctioning Kalashnikov and high-tail it back to Lake Baikal at that sight for sure!    So "come on" France and Britain.  Mobilize Now!  Get to the Ukie Eastern Front ASAP and stop Ivan in his tracks! You can do it!

Believe it or not but Macron actually now wants to send troops to Ukraine...there was already an "incident" not long ago where French mercenaries where killed by a Russian attack...resulting in an extraordinary announcement by the same Macron that France was not at war with Russia.

I can only think that by sending in troops they hope the rest of NATO will follow...then the "real" fireworks begin.

However, he cautioned against an idea from French President Emmanuel Macron to consider sending NATO troops to Ukraine to join the fight if Russia's Vladimir Putin achieves a breakthrough, saying that such a move would be a "dangerous escalation".

"I don't think it is right to have NATO soldiers killing Russian soldiers," the foreign secretary said in an interview in the western city of Lviv on Friday, having met President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and other top ministers in Kyiv on Thursday.

After regrouping and resupplying itself, what's to stop them from taking the rest of Ukraine?

 

Then they will be right at Moldovas border, where they already keep soldiers against Moldovas will. What's to keep them from taking Moldova next?

 

Then, emboldened by the West's weakness and defeatism, what's to stop them from taking more territory? Georgia?

Then perhaps the Baltic states or Romania? Poland...?

I don't know if Russia will stop.

There is no satisfying realistic solution to this bad situation.

I don't follow all the details, but it seems the front lines are more or less stable or Russia won a little over the last year or so.

So, what are the options?

Give more money to Ukraine and let more of their soldiers die to keep the existing lines?

Even more money and more dead to win back some territory?

Even more money and troupes from other countries to win back Crimea? 

 

It seems sometimes we have to accept that there is no good solution. And continuing with one of the bad "solutions" has only the "look, we do something" effect.

End the war. Try to make the best out of a bad situation. It's not easy, nobody will like it, but what's the alternative?

 

The west can still stockpile more weapons and have more weapons to protect the borders of the existing NATO countries. That might help for the future to make sure the situation is not getting worse.

Somehow UA will pay back, that "unwavering support" has a monetary value and for "unwavering supporters of freedom and democracy" is a win-win situation.

The Tories are only interested in looking after themselves, their cronies, illegal immigrants and Ukraine. 

 

The electorate isn't interested in anything other than sorting out issues relating to the UK and this is why the Tories will be annihilated at the next General Election. The NHS, law and order, immigration, taxation, unemployment, infrastructure, services all need addressing before throwing money at arming Ukraine.  

 

If you're such a Churchillian macho man, why don't you go fight Putin on the frontline? Notwithstanding, there's nothing to fear from Putin. Being colonised by Muslims is a far bigger danger to the UK and the electorate know it.

Indeed it's a bad situation.

However, as long as the brave Ukrainians are willing to fight for their lives against the forces of totalitarianism and oppression, in defence of our shared values and safety, we owe it to them to give them all the support they could possibly need.

 

Personally I would like to see NATO acting as Ukraines airforce, defending Ukraines airspace and territorial integrity (not attacking russian territory though). Several russian missiles have crossed over and landed on NATO territory during his conflict, and russian officials have already declared NATO their enemy.

 

That could really turn the tide of the war in Ukraines favour, and help them drive Putins army of rapists and murderers off their land, but it would mean playing a serious game of chicken with a Putin, who may or may not be of a sane and sound mind..
