Popular Post webfact Posted June 10, 2024 Popular Post Posted June 10, 2024 Picture courtesy: Khaosod Somchai, a 39-year-old debt collector known as Am, was arrested yesterday evening in Bangkok's Lat Krabang district. The arrest, executed by Romklao Police following an undercover operation, revealed that Somchai was in possession of two firearms, methamphetamine, and ketamine. Led by Kiattikul Sonthinen and in collaboration with Somphot Thongmun and Kornwararat Promsawan, the police made the arrest on a street in the Romklao 15 Community, around 9.50pm on June 8. Somchai had an automatic .45 mm firearm loaded with six rounds, a .38 mm revolver with five rounds, 40 rounds of .45 mm ammunition, as well as smaller quantities of drugs—2.23 grammes of methamphetamine and 0.55 grammes of ketamine. Authorities were alerted to Somchai’s activities through tips suggesting his involvement in drug use, illegal firearm possession, and ties with a loan shark gang. Plainclothes officers monitored his movements, leading to his eventual detention. Upon encountering the police, Somchai suspiciously attempted to flee into his car but was quickly apprehended. A search of the vehicle uncovered the concealed firearms and drugs. During interrogation, Somchai confessed. He disclosed that he bought the firearms for 20,000 baht (approximately £460) each from a man named Keng in Nong Chok, and the drugs from someone identified as Soup in Lad Buakhao for 300 baht (£7). The car he was using for debt collection activities was acquired from Beer in Nong Chok for 20,000 baht. He was working under the employment of a person known as Artit or Joke, from whom he received a 10% commission on collected debts. “I admit to using methamphetamine yesterday at 1pm,” Somchai stated. A preliminary urine test conducted by police confirmed the presence of methamphetamine in his system. Somchai is now facing multiple charges: possession of firearms and ammunition without permission, carrying firearms in public without a valid reason, possession of category 1 drugs (methamphetamine), possession of category 2 drugs (ketamine), and consumption of category 1 drugs. He has been transferred to Romklao Police Station for further legal proceedings as the investigation progresses, potentially leading to more arrests linked to this criminal network. -- 2024-06-10 Get our Daily Newsletter - Click HERE to subscribe 1 3
