Ayutthaya Bus Accident Leaves 16 Injured After Tyre Explosion

A factory shuttle bus encountered a catastrophic left front tyre explosion near the Ayutthaya Interchange yesterday evening, leading to injuries for 16 individuals. The incident, occurring around 6:30 pm, caused the vehicle to veer off the road and overturn.

 

Deputy Inspector Wutthiphat Chuaykhit of Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Police Station filed the initial report. Emergency responders from the Phutthaisawan and Ruamkatanyu Foundations were swiftly on the scene.

 

Upon arrival, authorities found the bus, registered as 30-1860 Ayutthaya, upturned on its right side. The injuries comprised 12 men and four women, all of whom were promptly transported to Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Hospital and Rajthanee Hospital for treatment.

 

The bus driver, 60-year-old Bunyak, recounted the moments before the accident. He was ferrying factory workers from Tha Ruea, Nakhon Luang, and Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya districts to the Rojana Industrial Park.

 

“As I was navigating a curve at the accident site, the left front tyre exploded with a loud bang. The bus then lost control, veered off the road, and overturned,” Bunyak explained.

 

Police have documented the scene extensively with photographs, and further inquiries will ensue to determine any additional factors contributing to the accident.

 

In a related yet separate mishap, another bus crash took place on the Si Kew-Chaiyaphum Road near Nakhon Ratchasima, leading to 47 injuries including students and teachers, and resulting in one fatality.

 

The accident occurred around 10:30 pm, involving a bus that was on a school trip to the Temple of the Emerald Buddha in Bangkok. The bus collided with a sugarcane truck that had swerved into its lane.

 

Tragically, the 41-year-old bus driver, Abhisit Boonyotha, succumbed to his injuries, while the students aged nine to eleven, along with their teachers, sustained various degrees of injuries.

 

Authorities are continuing to investigate both incidents to enhance road safety measures and prevent future occurrences.

Looking at the rim I would suggest the wheel has been kerb'd many times, with the side walk damage causing the blow out, I am interested for the reporters to ask the driver did he take a stroll around the vehicle prior to driving it and if so was there a big bulge in this tyre.

It is never best practice to fit regrooved tyre to the front axle but in this case it appeared to be sidewall damage which caused the tyre to fail, . 

As a foot note a front tyre rapid deflation is well contained if the driver is paying attention and not on his phone or picking his nose.

That would mean an at fault local, which is of course impossible.
