We have fewer reports from the smaller airports, so a smaller sample-size, which makes it hard to know for sure.  I recall bad reports on Phuket, so skip that one - likely have an "agent assisted entry" program (like the Bangkok airports and Aranya have) - primarily serving the prolific Russian visitor market to that area. 

Once that incentive is in-place, it is bad news for Thai owners and employees in the local tourist-sector, and their frequent-visitor foreign clientele.

Approximately a year ago, a friend arrived at Phuket, with a long history of various types of extensions trying to reenter on an agent assisted Non-ED with reentry permit. He was taken aside, grilled and when they couldn't reach his agent to discuss matters, the consensus was reached to deny him entry. They presented him the famous Denied Entry form, but he politely kept asking for help or a solution.

 

At some point an entrepreneurial officer offered to stamp him in in exchange for a contribution discreetly slipped into the passport.

I saw one 2nd hand report here of Russians given a hard time, but were let in after showing the receipt for payment from the Thai-Consulate at Phnom Penh and possibly other supporting paperwork.

I'm under the impression that they welcome you at the airport when you arrive and just guide you to the VIP immigration lane, and you don't have to wait in line, but how can they guarantee entry unless they are IO's as well 😕

 

I understand things work differently in Thailand but it's still pretty strange.

This is normally the case when it is very busy,  Once directed to a particular queue one can simply wait a few minutes and then move to a different queue, nobody is checking

They guide you to a lane where the IO is under specific instructions that you have been pre-screened. You will be stamped in, no questions asked.

I just got pulled aside at Suvarnabhum airport on a visa exempt entry. The IO asking me why I come to Thailand so often (I spend less than 180 days per year here). He also noted that I did not use my previous exit flight from Thailand (it was an onward ticket one). They seem to enter that into the system now. I told him I changed plans, he was not happy. I could convince them to let me in 1 more time and I got stamped 60 days. Next time I have to enter with a valid non immigrant visa they told me. Now I used an onward ticket again, which I am not planning to use. I am afraid they will have a major problem when I come back  or even when I exit on another day, even with a valid non immigrant visa, that I didnt use the booked flight again. Any ideas if I have to take this flight, or is it all about the correct visa? Onward ticket is 15th March, but the 60days end April11th (I want to leave April 11th). Not really sure what to do now.

Bottom line is that you were permitted to enter Thailand.

Forget about the ticket you have March 15.

You can leave anytime up till April 11.

No issue when you exit Thailand.

 

BTW: There would be no issue even if you had wanted to obtain 30 day extension.

Thank you for the response. I would think more that it would be an issue when I enter Thailand again. As the IO today instantly asked me why I did not fly out on the date that I had previously given to the IO when first entering Thailand on a visa exempt entry. When I have the correct non o visa that might probably not be an issue any more.

Yes I will be 50 on March 24th. But I am not registered in my home country, which a prerequisite for obtaining a Non O visa. I heard it is possible to obtain that visa inside of Thailand via agents. Not sure how legit this is, but it requires a lot less documents. Not sure if this will lead to problems at the airport later. Any thoughts?

You can obtain a non O retirement visa in Thailand directly from immigration, no need to use an agent.  The main requirement is that you need to have 800,000 baht in a Thai Bank.

I have no registered home address in Germany. Thats why I do not have an ID card. On the embassy homepage this is a prerequisite for applying for a non O visa, either an ID card or a verified document showing my address in Germany

I have a Thai bank account and I can transfer 800.000 Baht. Why do you think that is that not a good option?

The consul in my hometown even filled in the application for me, and for 50 Euros you had your multiple entry non O visa within 15 minutes. I want to stay in Thailand most of the times, while traveling abroad on a frequent basis. I think 90 days per visit would be fine for me.

So you are not even 50 currently.

Don't know you obtain Non O previously.

In any event shortly you will be 50.

Also the bonus is that you have a Thai bank account in your name only.

Best option for you (if you can afford it) is to obtain a Non O from visa exempt entry OR obtain a Non O outside of Thailand.

S subsequently obtain 12 month annual extension. 

This allows for ongoing living in Thailand without issue.

A Non O is single entry so you also obtain multiple reentry permit  (simple). That covers you to exit and reenter anytime during course of your extension. 

 

Forget about the 90 days. Think you refer to that as in your mind a Multi Entry Non O .....no, I'm outlining a single entry Non O + 12 month extension.

No need to exit at all unless you wish.

I would love to convert my visa exempt entry to a Non O visa (retirement) inside of Thailand. Does the 800k Baht have to be in that bank account for at least 2 months prior to my application? Or only at the time of the application?

So I turn 50 on March 24th, and my visa exempt ends on April 11th. That is 18 days, but only 14 business days. Hope that will be fine for most immigration offices. 

What is the earliest date that I could apply for the 12 months extension of this non O visa?

To apply for Non O you require 15 days remaining on permission of stay. 

CM 21. Phuket also.

The Non O provides a 90 day stamp.

After the funds have been in the account for two months, you can apply for 12 months extension.

 

Which immigration office? 

Remember you can obtain 30 day extension to current permission of stay to buy time (1900b)

No 2-months deposit seasoning is required for a Non-O 90-Day from Immigration, unless you apply at Jomtien/Pattaya.   The 2-months of money in the bank is only legally required for the 12-month extension application - but the person who handles it at Jomtien works a racket with the local agents.

You can also apply for a 30-Day extension of your current 60-days, providing additional time.

You apply for the visa where you live.  You'll need a copy of your lease/rental agreement at most offices and a TM30 from where you stay.

The detailed list is something you need to get from your immigration office.  Go there ahead of time and ask them for their handout to do a conversion to non-O retirement visa.  At the same time ask them for their handout for the 1-year extension as you'll be applying for that 2 months after you apply for your visa conversion.

You need "Bank letter". This is simply letter from bank that lists you as owner and balance at time of printing. 100b

You apply where you live.

Note: if you apply for the Non O in Bangkok that's where you apply for your 12 month extension.

In subsequent years you can change address and obtain extensions in another provience. 

 

Also: There are photocopy shops on Level 1. That is also where the banks are.

If you present your passport and bankbook to then they know what photocopies you need.

I was at CW today for the non 0 90 day, they wanted TM30, rental contract valid at least 3 months the also wanted proof of payment to the landlord (ie receipt) they did accept a screenshot showing transfer to their bank account, 800 000 in bank that can be on the day ,also they wanted bank certificate(letter) dated today, a copy of landlords house book and their ID, as well as copy of your current stamp and copy passport bio page, and completed form TM86

Don't know why they stated "bank letter" had to be day of application.

CW accept letter obtained days prior to application. 

They would want update on the day.
