Alina Habba Warns of "Uproar" if Donald Trump is Jailed Following Conviction

Alina Habba, Donald Trump’s lawyer, has issued a stern warning of potential public unrest if the former president is jailed following his conviction in the hush money criminal trial. Trump, who became the first former U.S.

president to be convicted of a crime, was found guilty on 34 counts of falsifying business records in an attempt to cover up a payment to adult film actor Stormy Daniels shortly before the 2016 election. Trump, denying any sexual encounter with Daniels, has blasted the trial as "rigged" and vowed to appeal the verdict.

Trump is set to be sentenced on July 11, just days before the Republican National Convention, where he is expected to be nominated for president. Each of the felony counts of falsifying business records carries a potential prison sentence of up to four years, though prosecutors have not specified if they will seek incarceration. The decision on whether Trump will face jail time lies with Judge Juan M. Merchan, and the outcome remains uncertain.

In an appearance on Fox News' Hannity, Habba expressed her concerns, stating, "I wouldn't put it past [the judge] to hand down a prison sentence while Trump is campaigning to win back the White House." She emphasized the potential consequences of such a decision, saying, "It will literally cause an uproar in this country. They cannot do it."

Habba referenced comments made by Sunny Hostin on The View, where Hostin claimed to have heard from someone in Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg's office that a one-year prison sentence would be sought. Habba questioned the appropriateness of such communication, saying, "First and foremost, why are you speaking to anybody from the DA's office? Secondly, the fact is, I wouldn't put anything past them, Sean."

The White House has been accused by Trump’s supporters of seeking to imprison him to bolster President Joe Biden's re-election campaign. Habba suggested that the Democrats' actions were "ridiculously desperate," adding, "They can't win. Biden's their candidate."

Judge Merchan recently modified the gag order in the case, allowing Trump to comment about witnesses and jurors in the trial but maintaining the ban on comments about court staffers, the prosecution team, and their families until sentencing. Trump is still permitted to comment on the judge and Bragg.

In addition to the hush money case, Trump faces charges in three other criminal cases. The U.S. Supreme Court is expected to rule soon on whether Trump has immunity from criminal charges related to his efforts to overturn his 2020 election defeat. He is also charged with illegally hoarding classified documents at his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida and obstructing efforts to retrieve them. Additionally, Trump faces charges in Georgia for allegedly participating in a scheme to overturn his loss to Biden in the 2020 election. Trump has denied any wrongdoing in all cases.

The scary thing is how many people would seemingly suspend the judicial process to quickly jail their opponent. The very same people that show up in threads like Hunter attempts to over turn his convictions and say he has every right to a defence, show up here and advocate the immediate imprisonment of their political opponents simply because he hurt their feelings.

Yadda… Yadda… Yadda… :violin:

What happened to the Republican spirt of Lock Um Up!… :coffee1:

First-time offense (that he has gone to trial for). For these offenses, people rarely go to jail. MAGA is just stirring up their followers.

Alvin Bragg isn't capable of putting a serial rapist behind bars so I think you are right.

I'm waiting for Georgia, which I feel is even more serious than his NY crimes.

Maybe someone should suggest to those supporters of the leader of the law-and-order party, that others, who broke the law, should also not go to jail. Like maybe let all those people cross the border illegally and just let them do it. Robbers, rapists, whatever, no jail please.

Somehow, I don't think that is what the rednecks want. Punish all the others, hard, but not our guys.

Pathetic!

At least you acknowledge that they are crossing illegally, it's a start. Your rant about rednecks is nothing more than forum masturbation. I hope it felt good. When you begin to talk about others as if they are some monolithic subhuman entity you lose credibility. You begin ti creat what you claim to despise.

Habba was right, the histrionics has already started.

When Trump eventually does wind up behind bars, and that day will come, he could interestingly calm the gum gnashing of his supporters by declaring g he’s not in prison.

The people who believed he didn’t commit the crimes he very clearly did commit.

Refused to accept he would be indicted.

Refused to accept he would go to trial.

Refuse to accept the indictments.

Refused to accept witnesses and evidence.

Refused to accept the jury.

Refused to accept the verdict.

They’ll have problem at all accepting Trump isn’t in prison, he only has to give the word.

All the rest of us have to do is wait to see which judge puts him in which prison and for how long.

Whatever we think there is little to no chance Trump is imprisoned before the election. Once the election occurs the picture will be more obvious.

The White House has absolutely nothing at all to do with Trump being punished for breaking the law. He was found guilty of all 34 offences he was charged with by an independent jury. But that is an inconvenient truth for his supporters. Blame someone else.

Meanwhile, after Trump showed his contempt for the legal system by calling it rigged, after he called the judge corrupt, after he repeatedly showed contempt of court by commenting on the case, after accepting no responsivity for the crimes he was found guilty of, after showing no remorse, his lawyer now adds further petrol to the fire by, in effect, trying to intimidate the judge into not passing a jail sentence.

I can agree with that.Citizen Trump will either do a runner or face long jail time. Here another zinger, his supporters will fade away and none are fully invested to riot for him.

There will be plenty of sanctuary states to choose from.

In all seriousness, I think the likely pubishment for Trump will be a 5 year banning order on makeup and combovers.

So this trial is about him paying off a prostitute? Can a decent American on this forum who has no affiliation to left or right ideology explain to me fairly why is this different than what Clinton did?

If this is as far as you go, it is best to shuffel over to that Uninfomed line over there and wait your turn.

Compared to what being stored in a cryogenics chamber for ten days to prepare for a 90 minute debate. Being allowed 3 hours a day of "up" time to have prevagen enemas and neuralink implants in an aircraft hangar?

So let’s just wait a moment for a wee reality check Joe Biden just returned from the D Day observation ceremony’s giving speeches on the world stage then did the G7 lots of meetings with the leaders of the worlds most powerful economies then to the Vatican for a meeting with the pope that sir is a a lot of work even for a young man,he did just fine……meanwhile trump is gaffing about sharks and batteries….thats reality ps the stock market is booming unemployment at record lows inflation (a worldwide phenomenon) is coming down…….president Biden is preparing for the debate thats the prudent responsible thing to do…..along with other duties governing the nation…..

in all seriousness though.

Someone once said, if you can't do the time, don't do the crime.

Anyway, he can still be elected while in jail.

No, it's not.  But the fact that you believe this demonstrates yet again how reading/watching right wing media can fry your brain.

Every single reply like this seems to come from a nutter.

I don't watch right wing media. I don't care much, but would like someone to explain it to me.

You obviously can not.

I certainly can explain it to you, but it's pretty clear to me that you don't want an explanation.  Because if you really wanted to know the truth, there are literally tons and tons of information out there that could explain that trial and verdict.  Heck, it was covered extensively for weeks on nearly every media outlet.  So for you to claim ignorance of what this trial was about....simply not believable.

My suggestion is for you to go read his 34 guilty counts. Stark differences.
