Elide Fire Extinguisher Ball

In the past if there were any fire incidents, people had to go through a lot of hassle to try and put it out and then if it got out of hand call the fire department to ask for assistance.

Now in 2007, a more convenient way of putting out fire has been created by Mr. Woradech Kaimart.

A devastating fire broke out in the Royal Jomtien Hotel, Pattaya in 1997; Mr. Kaimart was at the scene as part of the community service. The tragic event inspired him to begin his research to develop equipment for helping people fight the spread of fire at an early stage.

His invention, a Fire Extinguishing Ball was created.

The Fire Extinguishing Ball is a ball shaped fire extinguisher. Simply thrown into a fire, it will activate within 3 seconds and effectively disperse extinguishing chemicals. When a fire occurs and no one is present, the Ball will self-activate when it comes into contact with fire and emit a loud noise as a fire alarm. It is light weight - of less than 1.3 kgs. It is non-toxic to the environment being made from environmental friendly materials, and the outward driving force from activation of the ball does not harm humans or the environment.

The Elide Fire Extinguish Ball was officially made known to the public at the Eastern Grand Palace, Soi Khaotalo. The product was demonstrated in the car park of the hotel that night and received an award from ISO 9001-2000.

This product is available here in Pattaya at 1,800 Baht each through the Siam Safety Empire Company located in Banglamung.

These You Tube videos seem to be Turkish, another country known for high safety standards.

Not sure that this is better than a CO2 or plain water device depending on the nature of the fire, I would like to see a demo with the inventor sitting in the room next to the fire. Maybe this is best suited to SWAT use only, or at least by someone that can throw a ball and hit a target, assuming that the ball does not bounce and miss the fire !

The blast seems to knock out the fire (displace oxygen?) - but would probably also knock out any windows thus giving the fire enough O2 to reignite if the the souce of fuel and heat remains.

I will not be buying shares in this company.

I was working in China in 1984 and the local fire chief gave us a demo of a similar product. They started a pretty decent sized fire in the yard and then he lobbed a 'firebomb' as he called them into the flames. Nothing happened so he lobbed a second one in. After a minute the flames are dying of their own accord so rather sheepishly he chucks the last one in. Bam! Bam! There's 2 percussions, some light debris in the air and loads of white dust but the fire is out.

As we were chatting about using these devices, one of the firemen is kicking around in the embers and... Bam! The third device goes off, scaring the bejeezus out of all of us and almost taking the foot off the fireman.

We declined to purchase any.
