A 37-year-old British man was arrested at Phuket Airport upon his arrival in Thailand, following a long-standing warrant for his arrest. The man, whose name has not been disclosed, has been on the radar of Thai authorities since 2017, and his actions are now under close scrutiny.

He must have known they'd be looking for him. If you're working for someone and steal (or "embezzle") a whack of money from them and then skip the country, you probably shouldn't ever go back. Not unless you have a lot of "biometric" alterations, a new name and new passport at least.

Especially when there are safer options to travel to. Maybe the money he "allegedly" stole ran out and he thought he'd just come back and try the same thing again ?

And why do these guys never post about their situations on here ? Surely more than a few of them must be TV/AseanNow/Thiager forum members.

I might be highly possible that a few of these guys have been posting about their situation and asking for help or advice. The only problem is when someone does that, they always give minimal information so it´s not possible for us to know what it´s all about.

Most probably he thought that after 7 years his  theft records would be espunged. He thought wrong. Being in excile for seven years  he may have thought he had done his time for his crime. Wrong.

And he might have simply left the country completely unaware that there was an arrest warrant for him. Possibly, the warrant was issued after he had left the country as his passport was not flagged when he left.

Don't forget that he may be innocent of any crime. So many people on here seem to think that being accused of a crime means that they are guilty!

How the legal system works in many countries is "innocent until proven guilty" (in court), but TIT and I guess that different rules apply?  Perhaps it's "guilty until a adequately bulging brown envelope is received?"

Unfortunately these people who you entrust with dispursing payments see the amount in

A business account and the temptation becomes to much.  

 

I know a lot of small business owners who handle all their own banking, payroll, and bill payment

So why wasn't he tracked & extradited from wherever he's been hanging out (UK?) for the last 7 years?

 

Seems that, as long as you have half a brain and never return to Thailand, you can get away with just about anything. Or perhaps the actual gravity of the crime didn't meet whatever the minimal level for extradition requires? or perhaps it just wasn't worth the (yawn) effort?

A guy is picked up by police at the airport.

He cannot be recognized by the photo, so no face pic.

His story cannot include any details on the alleged embezzlement.
