Chinese Ambassador Han Zhiqiang has reiterated Beijing's dedication to helping Thailand tackle the issue of dubious Chinese businesses, while also enhancing trade and relations between the two nations.

 

Han delivered these remarks during a seminar on Tuesday, 23rd July, commemorating the 49th anniversary of China-Thailand diplomatic ties.

 

A recent incident involving a Chinese-language billboard in Bangkok’s Huai Khwang district has sparked some controversy. The billboard, promoting a 30-day service for acquiring foreign passports or citizenship, was spotted over the weekend, raising concerns among Thai officials.

 

Han mentioned that over 2,400 Chinese businesses are currently operating in Thailand, with about 1,400 having passed inspections by the Board of Investment (BoI).

 

Most of these companies are in the manufacturing and construction sectors, contributing to Thailand through job creation, investments, and social and educational initiatives.

 

Additionally, many Chinese entrepreneurs run smaller businesses in the service sector, including over 700 Sichuan hotpot restaurants in Bangkok.

 

However, Han acknowledged that some investments might involve questionable capital. 

 

“Some Chinese investors in Thailand are associated with shady activities. We recognise these issues and the harm they cause to Thai SMEs," Han said. "It adds pressure on local competition and can sometimes violate Thai laws. Both Thai and Chinese authorities need to work closely together to enforce regulations.”

 

China aims to support Thailand, particularly in the areas of trade and investment, including agriculture and tourism, Han noted.

 

The total trade value between the two countries stands at US$120 billion (approximately 4.34 trillion baht), with China having a trade surplus of US$35 billion. Over 85% of imports from China are capital goods that Thailand can further process for export, such as silicone sheets.

 

Han added that Chinese companies have established solar cell sheet production facilities in Thailand. Last year, imports of silicone sheets from China reached US$1.2 billion, while Thailand exported solar cell panels, mainly to Europe, worth US$3 billion, reported Bangkok Post.

 

“China welcomes Thai exports and is eager to assist Thailand in boosting its exports to China, especially agricultural products, which make up 42% of total exports.”

 

Moreover, Chinese tourists significantly contributed to Thailand’s economy, spending US$10 billion last year.

They should allow China to set up a police stations manned with Chinese officers to clean up the criminals that fled China.

Between China and Russia, Thailand is fast becoming the land of scammers. We need to be very careful. If it sounds too good to be true, it is. If we can't properly vet a seller, we don't buy. Never send money to someone you don't know, unless they are a reputable retailer. Basic safety is required to survive and thrive these days. 

 

There are an increasing number of lowlifes who absolutely refuse to work for a living, and simply want to prosper by scamming people and relying on people's poor judgment.
