Thailand Secures Historic Gold and Multiple Medals at Paris Olympics

PARIS (NNT) - Thailand now ranks 31st at the Paris Olympics, with a total of 1 gold, 2 silver, and 2 bronze medals. This achievement underscores the nation's prowess in various sports on the global stage.

Panipak Wongpattanakit made history on Wednesday by becoming the first person from Thailand to win two gold medals. She defended her Tokyo title in the taekwondo women's flyweight division against China's Guo Qing.

 

Panipak secured the victory with a 6-3, 2-3, 6-2 win, clinching the match with two kicks to the head, each yielding three points. This final match was the most challenging she faced throughout the day, having sailed through all earlier bouts with two-round wins.

 

In other events, Theerapong Silachai won a silver medal in the Men's 61 kg weightlifting event. Surajana Khampao also brought home a bronze medal in the Women's 49 kg weightlifting event.

I thought I saw another Thai woman get a gold in weightlifting.

I guess the gold medal standings are wrong it should be per capita. OK call me biased but I find it wrong. China is in first place with 32 gold (population of 1.2 billion) the USA is second with 31 gold (population of about 360 million) Australia has 18 gold but only 27 million population.  The same applies to other small countries am I biased? To add to this (not a racist remark) why are dark-skinned athletes superb at running no matter what country?

After three medals in weightlifting, the Thais have ended up with a total of six medals, which is quite an accomplishment. Kudos to them for an excellent Olympics performance, Panipak, and the men's weightlifting was especially impressive.
