Who would carry a 120K around at that time 8.20am even the banks aren't open, and a Tourist, is his wife Thai ? A bit of a nothing story IMO

20 years in TH and I have never encountered a problem including some late nights. Generally it is very safe unless you look for trouble. London on the other hand ... I remove all valuables.

How difficult would it be for us to be told the reason why the guy said his wife had more money?

It would make an incomprehensible story, understandable!

leave the fancy jewelry at home

Thought it was only the tourists from India that were dumb enough to flaunt their expensive jewellery - usually in the vicinity of ladyboys in Pattaya.

Come to think of it, I haven't heard of any such incidents for a while  - insurance companies welching on their policies, perhaps?

Took the words right out my mouth.

Dress simply.

Be nothing.

120,000 BHT, seriously? That's like $4k....who wears that kind of jewelry in a dump like Patong?

Insure claim in the offing me thinks?

And here we go again with the constant defender of Thai scum drivers, taxis, motorbike riders, jet ski scammers that dish out gratuitous violence on tourists, and you are incapable of accepting it.

Instead, you blame the victim because he's foreign.

The guy has stolen a 120,000 baht chain, that is robbery with violence. Police are searching for him.

Or in your world is that allowed and justified in Thailand?

You tell'em Karen.

Wearing valuable neckless, rings or watches is like a magnet on criminal elements anywhere in the world! Stop wearing them when you are out at night! It is naive and stupid!! Are you so desperate to show off???

Probably a bit more to this story than what he is letting on.

With the gold chain being stolen maybe a ladyboy dressed as a man

THis is not a mugging, though, is it? THey were tallkoing about 'money" it looks like the Thai person thpought he was owed money by the Brit. I think there could be a back story here that leads up to the fight.

If this 62 year old man would have read about Thailand before his visit, he would certainly been smart enough to

leave his jewelry at home.  Being rich, does not mean being smart. Maybe now he will have enough intelligence to

leave the rest of his jewelry at home.
