We do have Amazon here, don't blame me because you can't afford to use them.

Where is 'here' please? There is no Amazon.co.th.

Must use Singapore, Malysia or USA or UK.

I spend almost no money shopping on the internet....and probably zero this year.

When I came here I flirted with Lazada, but I was unhappy with the service.

What I do spend money on is e-books for my kindle, nothing else and occasionally buy gift cards for my granddaughter.

Having said that, being in my 70s, there is really nothing at all I want to buy, on Amazon or in stores. Consumerism has gone stale, the promise and lure of purchases that have consistently failed to deliver the promises made in the ad, have led to me being an anti-consumer.

My wife makes up for my lack of spending however....any old tat she sees advertised she wants to buy and as gullible as they come, especially for medical supplements that are supposed to revolutionise one's life, but never do. I eat the supplements of course, because I love her.

What has your age got to do with buying stuff on-line.

You say your Mrs buys, so what's the difference?

So you dictate where she must spend money you send to her? Transfer Baht so she can go anywhere.

I think he means he does not need to buy new stuff to amuse himself, not replacing consumables.

I can relate, I replace stuff, but I don't buy a lot of new stuff. That said, I like being able to buy stuff online and have it delivered.

I have in fact purchased sheets and a mattress protector from Amazona and had it delivered to Thailand.

Got a few friends that come to Thailand from the US at least yearly, I just send whatever I need to their house and they bring it over for me. Not the fastest way to get things done, but it usually only cost me a lunch.

I do the same... sorta.

Have work collegues visiting the office fairly often, I get stuff sent to their office (USA/AUS/UK) and they bring over for me.

When I was working, we got a 40' container a month from our California plant, anything I wanted I'd have delivered to the plant and it went into the front of the container.

One of the few things I miss about working.

really did not know about the costs of delivery until just recently when I began to buy the components for a computer.

After going through the process, a few times, ordering components and having components delivered....ON TIME....

I finally realized that this was a better option for buying what I need, from overseas, delivered to my door.

But, truth to tell, you bought all those new computer parts from JIB and then let JIB put them together and deliver the finished computer, didn't you? We'd need a shipping confirmation from Amazon to prove you bought anything from Amazon. Your post is merely dreaming about buying something from Amazon if it weren't for customs & shipping costs.

That said, there's little need for Amazon in Thailand nowadays. True, Amazon has stuff you can't find here but might like to have, and have w/o import tax added. But then you realize that you don't really need it and can find acceptable substitutes. Moreover, returns and support could be an issue w/ Amazon you don't have locally.

Nowadays, Lazada, Shopee, Aliexpress, and Temu, not to mention the big retail outlets, can provide all that's needed except specialty gear. Though some of our old members have problems with them, as with Immigration and god knows what else, I never do. Returns have been painless and refunds issued.

So you want Amazon to set up a .TH site is that what you are saying.

you will still pay shipping and import taxes on items not made here.

might as well use Lazada !

And the site would be in Thai, and the search function would be sh*t.

And you would still have to pay the duty, plus a markup.

You sound to me like one of those....

BIRTHERS.....

The guys that believed that Obama was born in Africa, or someplace...and not...

In America.

Am I right, Sir?

I very much enjoy reading your comments, just the same, Sir.

Mere personal attack to deflect from the point. Note you didn't deny my point about JIB. And you have no Amazon shipping confirmation to show you've ever bought anything from Amazon, let alone a computer part. Here, I'll go first:

I have been purchasing from Amazon since...probably...

Before you were born.

I even purchased tons of stuff from Amazon China...

Back in the day when I was living in China.

How many years have you lived in China, or Greater China...?

I have lived in Greater China, and Mainland China for....

OVER 45 years, Sir....

I know a thing or to about buying from Amazon in distant lands....

You, and people like you, are destroying the local small economies (shops) all around the world, sending into disgrace hundreds of families in favour of multinational companies. Be ashamed of yourself.

That´s great! Good Luck with that. Only wondering why you are complaining over tax and duty, then?

With no evidence of ever having done so. Irrelevant, however, as the time of reference is the present day, as you well know.

So let's see a recent shipping confirmation from Amazon of anything you ordered that was supposedly "delivered to your door." I've led the way, and so you now know what one looks like. You should have several still sitting in your inbox.

You've also had nearly two weeks to order something after the big announcement. I suspect you haven't ordered anything and probably never will.
