She's obviously clever enough to take some average songs and sexualise her appearance enough to propel her into the superstar ranks, but her concert that I saw was a bit pants- she should employ a better choreographer, and a concert manager with better ideas. Don't get me wrong, I really like her songs, even if the VDOs don't conform to the song, nice hum along songs to put one in a happy place, but none of that means she knows anything more about politics than any other young woman. -

Phuket, Thailand’s picturesque island getaway, has earned the unfortunate distinction of being the world’s most overcrowded destination. Once renowned for its serene beaches and tranquil atmosphere, Phuket now sees tourists outnumbering locals by an astonishing 118 to one. The issue of overtourism has been thrust into the spotlight since the global travel industry roared back to life post-Covid. Holidaymakers, eager to make up for lost time, have inundated many popular spots, putting immense pressure on local infrastructure and environments. Recently, Venice took the drastic step of introducing a tourist tax to curb the influx of visitors, joining Thailand, which imposed a similar levy earlier this year. Other Thai holiday destinations such as Pattaya and Krabi also feature high on the list of crowded hotspots, ranking second and third, respectively. Meanwhile, Macau in China and Miami in the United States round out the top ten. Phuket, the largest island in Thailand, boasts 90 miles of stunning coastline and world-famous beaches like Kata and Karon. Nevertheless, not all parts of the island are idyllic. Patong, the most popular resort area, is heavily crowded with tourists, beach gear, and vibrant nightlife, leading to a less than peaceful experience for many visitors. One disillusioned tourist expressed their frustration: “Nothing could have prepared me for the hordes of people. The island, the beaches, even the tours to nearby islands felt overwhelmingly crowded.” Despite the throngs of visitors, there are still quieter corners of Phuket to be discovered. The northern and eastern regions of the island offer a more genuine Thai experience with fewer tourists and more affordable prices. However, the island’s infrastructure is struggling to cope. The influx of tourists, particularly arriving on non-stop, large aircraft, has pushed Phuket to its limits. In response, Thailand has implemented a 300-baht tourist tax on all airline tickets to the country. This measure aims to regulate the soaring visitor numbers, which plummeted from 40 million in 2019 to just 200,000 during the pandemic, before surging back dramatically. Revisiting History: The Unlikely Campaign to Vilify Winston Churchill
The 10-ton (Nazi) elephant* in this thread is the notion Hitler made a serious peace offer to Great Britain in 1940. That's NOT the case. On July 19, 1940, Hitler gave a speech to the Reichstag that included a vague peace offer to Great Britain as well as insults to Churchill and threats of destruction to the country and British Empire. "Hitler made it clear that rejection of his appeal to 'reason' would result in a 'final' attack upon Britain with every resource that Germany could throw into the battle." https://www.upi.com/Archives/1940/07/19/Hitler-offers-Britain-peace-or-destruction/6824181303557/ Back in 1940, most non-Germans recognzed the speech was propaganda, not a serious overture. Because it's better to have primary sources rather than a steady stream of Wikipedia links, I'll quote at length the US journalist William Shirer , who heard the speech in person and wrote about it in his award-winning bestseller The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich. Shirer said he noted in his diary the day of the speech that “'As a maneuver calculated to rally the German people for the fight against Britain, Hitler’s speech was a masterpiece. For the German people will now say: ‘Hitler offers England peace, and no strings attached. He says he sees no reason why this war should go on. If it does, it’s England’s fault.’ "And was that not the principal reason for giving it, three days after he had issued Directive No. 16 to prepare the invasion of Britain? He admitted as much—beforehand—to two Italian confidants, Alfieri and Ciano. On July 1 he had told the ambassador: …It was always a good tactic to make the enemy responsible in the eyes of public opinion in Germany and abroad for the future course of events. This strengthened one’s own morale and weakened that of the enemy. An operation such as the one Germany was planning would be very bloody… Therefore one must convince public opinion that everything had first been done to avoid this horror… "In his speech of October 6 [when he had offered peace to the West at the conclusion of the Polish campaign—W.L.S.] he had likewise been guided by the thought of making the opposing side responsible for all subsequent developments. He had thereby won the war, as it were, before it had really started. Now again he intended for psychological reasons to buttress morale, so to speak, for the action about to be taken.46 A week later, on July 8, Hitler confided to Ciano that he would stage another demonstration so that in case the war should continue—which he thought was the only real possibility that came into question—he might achieve a psychological effect among the English people… Perhaps it would be possible by a skillful appeal to the English people to isolate the English Government still further in England." Kindle Edition.} It's interesting that Hitler wasn't able to fool many British or Americans back in 1940 with his phony peace offer, but appears to have succeeded 84 years later. Bottom line: Churchill didn't reject peace with Gemany; he rejected a propaganda ploy. *I am aware it's a pre-Nazi swastika on the elephant at the entrance to the Carlsberg Brewery in Copenhagen. -

Why wait until the end of your extension of stay when you can do it 45 days before expiry in Phuket? You don't lose any day when you do your extension early. While you are preparing your document, do remember that all copies must be in portrait format. I gave them a google map to my condo in landscape format for easy reading. No, they wanted a small portrait format one eventhough you can hardly read it. I usually provided a photo of me standing in front of my condo as there is only a plain door going into my apartment. This time, the IO asked me to print out the house number (as given in the address of my unit) in large font size (150), paste it on the door and take a photo of me standing in front of the door. He put a note on my pile of document stating that I should provide this photo when I collect my new extension. Every year, new surprises. -
