Sad story, but anecdotal fear mongering. Sounds like she had underlying genetic disorders related to heart. Plus not everyone is able to consume the same things in life. Some people are allergic to peanuts or seafood or alcohol or certain medicines. Some people might take penicillin and die. I could go on, but I’m sure you get the point already. -

And as far as pissing in the water - who cares? people do it all the time, just in the water and not out. Fun fact: the smell of chlorine in public pools is not actualy chlorine which is odorless - it is the smell of piss in the water - even a little goes a long way to get that familiar scent. -

Oh, they were noticed and if the Phuket experience with the illegal bars and restaurants on the beach is an indication, it went something like this; - Locals notice and inquire and are told, all is approved, look we have permits. - Local officials who helped issue permits say they were just doing what they were told to do and tell locals to be quiet. - Senior officials acting on complaints say stop it, but developer goes to court and wins delay after delay. Smiling Judge says there must be due process and developer must be heard. - On and on it goes with land deeds offered up. How could such deeds be offered they are asked, I don't know, as it was before my time is the reply. - Meanwhile, developers and promoters are selling and renting the properties. - Buyers and renters are aware of the issues, but say this is Thailand and it is ok, they can do whatever they want because they can pay the officials to make it all go away. And now, surprise, surprise, the deck of cards collapses. - -

Australian Aged Pension
Great question. I wished I asked it myself. But Will27 posted the question has been answered, twice. What is one to believe? That's a given, of course. There can be no portability without a pension, right? Before, or after, their birthday, thus, their application date? You do not mention an arrival date back to Australia BEFORE their birthday and application date. We know this. We know this also. I don't want to twist / challenge / disagree with anything. I want to know if someone has been outside of Australia for say 20 years, how many years / months do they have to return to Australia BEFORE their qualifying birthday for the pension, so they can fly straight out with portability. I really can't make the question more simple. Do you know the answer? Yes, or no? It's important because we have a member suggesting you just have to be inside Australia at the time of applying, which I found surprising. -

Confessions of a capitalistic communist.
In my younger years I was a Communist. I found that nobody needs billionaires. I found that (instead) affordable housing, a guaranteed workplace, free hospitalisation and free education for everyone would be the peak of civilisation, that nobody in his right mind could object to this. (Nobody gets too rich and nobody gets too poor). Over time, I realised that practised communism had very little to do with the original concept. So, I turned into a capitalistic communist. Quite successfully I might add. Still regretting much, that human nature does not accomodate "equality", but rather "competition". Few win, most lose. In Thailand as well as in 80% of the rest of the wolrld. Eighter way, this is not going to end up well.
