Authorities are investigating the mysterious death of a Russian tourist whose body was discovered near Karon Beach in Phuket. The deceased, identified as a young male, was found in a small canal, close to the beachfront.

Police were alerted at around 13:00, on September 3, prompting the immediate dispatch of officers from the Karon Police Station, including Deputy Inspector Phirawat Yodtor and other local law enforcement officials, alongside a forensic team and emergency responders from the Phuket Ruamjai Rescue Foundation. Upon arrival, they found the area surrounded by curious onlookers, both locals and tourists.

The area was quickly cordoned off to preserve the scene for forensic examination. The preliminary investigation by the forensic team and a medical examiner from Vachira Phuket Hospital revealed that the victim had sustained multiple injuries. Notably, there were bruises around the eyes, cuts on both arms extending to the bone, and further bruising under the chin and inside the mouth. The injuries suggested that the man had been dead for approximately eight hours before his body was discovered.

The forensic team noted that the nature of the injuries, particularly the deep cuts on both arms, made suicide unlikely. The investigation is ongoing, with authorities considering it foul play.

Police are urging anyone with information regarding the victim's activities prior to his death to come forward as they work to unravel the circumstances surrounding this tragic incident, as the investigation continues.

Russian Man Found Dead Near Karon Beach, Police Suspect He was Murdered
By Goongnang Suksawat

Karon, Phuket– On Tuesday, August 3rd, a Russian man was found dead near Karon Beach, with police suspecting foul play.

The Karon Police were alerted by a local resident at 1:10 P.M. about a body discovered in a ditch near the Naga statue. Upon arrival, police, accompanied by a doctor and the Phuket Express, found the body of a foreign man, shirtless and wearing shorts.

The man had severe slash wounds on both arms and a head injury. Police believe the man, identified only as Mr. Ilia, 27, a Russian national, had been dead for at least 24 hours before his body was discovered. There were no signs of a struggle at the scene, however.

A doctor on the scene suggested the death was unnatural, and an autopsy was planned to be conducted to determine the exact cause of death of the victim.

Near the body, police found a black bag containing two passports. One passport belonged to Mr. Ilia, and the other to a Russian woman. Records show that Mr. Ilia entered Thailand on April 24th of this year with a 90-day visa exemption.

Was that after the Op photo was taken or before when it was trampled by multiple people.

My OP picture was after the body was moved up onto the paved area, the scene pictures are too graphic to post.

Is this a case of the plod hedging their bets on a time?

Regardless, R.I.P. to the young man.

This area is just 25 meters from the main road. You would have no need to walk down their as the wall stops you accessing the beach. It must have been a shady meeting place for what ever reason.

For a long while it seemed suicide was the go-to cause for farang deaths (per BiB), particularly in the Bkk/Pattaya part of the country; I took it as their way of saying "we can't be bothered with this."

I'm quite surprised at this assessment so soon.  Maybe the boys down south got a little more to them.

Maybe something to do with the new Russian Ambassador on the island.

The picture in the OP, as I posted above, was not the location of where the body was found. It was taken after the body had been moved to the paved area, for medical examination.

This is confirmed by the scene pictures of the body in its initial position, which are too graphic for the forum.

Ummm… the other passport owner is where… ?

You would think that someone with such a keenly enquiring mind would have the common sense to click through and read the full story before positing.
