An elderly man collecting recyclables was tragically killed in a hit-and-run accident on September 6th, at 16:30 on Sukhumvit Road, heading into Chanthaburi city. The incident occurred near the entrance of Soi 2, Plub Pla Subdistrict. The victim, an 80-year-old man with a disability in his right leg, was fatally injured after being struck by a speeding black pickup truck. Despite efforts from rescue teams, the man succumbed to his injuries at the scene. The accident was reported to Chanthaburi City Police by local authorities, and police officers, led by Lt. Kanittha Pongmoo, responded swiftly to the location. Upon arrival, they discovered the man lying motionless with severe injuries to his head, arms, and legs, particularly on his left side. His left arm and leg were both broken, and he had sustained a deep laceration to his head. Eyewitnesses informed the police that the victim, who made a living by collecting and selling recyclables, was attempting to cross the four-lane road to sell items at a local scrap dealer when the tragedy occurred. The truck, described as a black four-door pickup, struck him with full force, sending his body flying before it hit the ground violently. Shockingly, the driver did not stop to check on the victim but instead sped away, heading towards Khlung District in the direction of Trat Province. Further investigations revealed that the victim had to cross the busy road daily as part of his work. Eyewitnesses stated that, at the time of the accident, the elderly man was likely returning home after collecting recyclables. As he was crossing the street, no one noticed the speeding truck until the loud sound of the crash alerted bystanders. When they turned around, they saw the man’s body thrown onto the road while the suspect’s vehicle quickly fled the scene. Fortunately, nearby CCTV cameras captured clear footage of the truck involved, including its license plate number. It was also discovered that the driver briefly returned to the scene while medical personnel were attempting to save the victim’s life, only to flee once again. The authorities have already initiated efforts to track down the suspect. Local police units in the surrounding areas have been notified and are collaborating to intercept the vehicle responsible for the accident. Tragically, it was revealed that the victim was the sole caregiver for his bedridden wife, who is unable to take care of herself. His death leaves her without the support she desperately needs, adding to the gravity of this heartbreaking incident. Local authorities are working to assist the family during this difficult time. -- 2024-09-07 Get the ASEAN NOW daily NEWSLETTER - Click HERE to subscribe RPReplay_Final1725681715.mp4 2 1

nakhonandy Posted September 7 Posted September 7 They need to dish out serious penalties for hit and run as a deterrent. Too many cowards do this.
kidneyw Posted September 7 Posted September 7 That old fella was pushing his luck trying to cross a busy road like that. Still, the scumbag that hit him has no excuse.
