Cambodian woman caught begging in Bangkok with three children

Immigration officials have apprehended a Cambodian woman again for begging in central Bangkok, this time with her three children. Last year, she was deported with two children for similar offences but returned, citing the generosity of Thai citizens.

 

Police Colonel Kachapon Pathomang, the Investigation Superintendent of Immigration Division 1, and Police Lieutenant Colonel Suriya Puangsomboon, Deputy Superintendent of Investigations, along with their team, found a 33 year old Cambodian woman yesterday, September 10, holding her child while begging at the foot of the skywalk stairs near Soi Sukhumvit 15. Upon inspection, the woman admitted she had no passport and had illegally entered Thailand through the northeastern border.

 

During the arrest, the officers recognised the woman from a previous incident on July 10 last year, when the same investigation team arrested her for begging at Siam Square with her two children.

 

After her initial arrest and deportation back to Cambodia, the woman had another child, now approximately one year old. She decided to re-enter Thailand illegally with her three children, resorting to begging once more. She claimed it was a lucrative occupation due to the benevolence of Thai people and sympathetic foreign tourists who frequently bought her food and water, and gave her money. The woman confessed she could earn between 1,000 and 2,000 baht daily, almost every day.

 

 

 

 

“Thai people are kind-hearted, and tourists feel sorry for us and give us money.”

 

The woman insisted that she brought her children to beg on her own accord and that there were no gangs or individuals behind her actions.

 

The woman and her children are now in police custody, and further legal actions are expected, reported KhaoSod.

It rather upsetting to see babies on the street being held by a beggar , babies on the street next to a road breathing all that pollution in .

Blame the cause and not the result.

The woman is making a marginal better living in the lack of any safety net in either country.

Thailand and Cambodia need to collaborate on better life for their homeless/unemployed/stateless (likely without a passport) along their borders.

People caring give her money and food.

She gets arrested and sent back to Cambodia.

She has another kid and comes back with 3 children for begging again.

 

Send her back again and tell her if she comes back she'll go into jail,  and possible lose custody of her children.   She obviously makes more here than in Cambodia. 

 

She must have relatives in Cambodia she can work with and build a life there,  not Thailand begging.

Am surprised she is here with her own kids. So many kids with women on the streets begging are rentals.. Renting the kid so they get money easier. People are more kind-hearted when seeing a poor child rather than just a middle-aged or old person trying to get free money.

yes i agree,  most of them cradle the orphan kids of the gang,  the headman gets the tips and the beggar gets a shed and food everyday.

A  beggar earning THB1000-2000/day?

No wonder she can afford to travel illegally from home to BKK repeatedly.

Black Market Journey costs a lot more than lawful way.

My landlord used to hire undocumented Burmese man as a janitor years ago.

And he said that it costs 3000- for the travel from Chiang Mai to Mae Sai(Thai-Burmese border); A/C bus trip costed 500B or so.

Honest Thai workers living on minimum wage(363 B/day in BKK) would upset with what she brags.

Especially when she is taking advantage of the soft spot of Thais and foreigners.

From her perspective, her  children are Capital for easy money.

And having more of them is just like Capital Investment to her.

I have even heard of Baby for Hire to the female beggars though.
