Shingles - Worth the vaccination?

I suggest to read my post when sober.

7-9 years is the number derived from introduction on the market.

11 years includes the clinical trials.

Many posters (especially those interested in Shingrix) are in their late 70s or 80s with serious health conditions, for them, 11 years is life long.

I was mentioning the lifespan of the vaccine, nobody claims it's life long except you. You are talking about the life span of the vaccinated not the same thing at all. Pity their is not a vaccine for pedantic idiocy.

  • You won't get Shingrix for under 5000 baht per injection anywhere.   And yes, it is well worth it.

  • I got the vaccine because I heard from someone that got shingles that the pain was so bad that he begged doctors for opioids.    I do not like pain.

  • Have you checked with Stiddle Mump or Red Phoenix.......see what the real experts say?

In Melbourne, Australia, this week, the home invasion of a very famous former Australian Football League coach made news.

https://www.9news.com.au/national/afl-coach-mick-malthouse-fights-off-home-invaders-in-east-melbourne/77f7240e-df64-47b3-a1b5-7353e59f51d3

Speaking to media outside his home, Malthouse said he had been suffering from shingles for the past seven weeks but "adrenaline kicked in" when he heard the home invaders.

"I don't sleep, cause [the shingles] kept me awake," Malthouse explained.

Malthouse was known for being a hard-nosed player and coach, so for someone like him being unable to sleep properly for seven weeks is a reminder of how hard shingles can hit some people.

Please keep it civil.

The discussion is about the duration of protection given by the vaccine.

It is impossible to measure this beyond the time that anyone has thus far been vaccinated for.

No sign of decreasing protection has been found in vaccinated individuals to date, but the vaccine has only been on market for 7-8 years and even the initial clinical trials (smaller number of people) are only 10-11 years ago. Hence you will read that protection is at least 7/8, or 10/11 years. That does not mean it is only that long.  It means that this is the longest time span for which protection can currently be measured.

It may well turn out to protect for 20, 30, 40 years - who knows.

If, once enough time has passed to measure protection in people vaccinated more than a decade ago, it is found that at some point protection wanes then booster will be recommended accordingly.
