Gold coast is very crowded ,very expensive , lots of crime, a bit like Pattaya without the ladyboys nice to visit for the day but not to live!!.But the Sunshine coast 2 hours further north is Beautiful, Look at Places like Redcliffe, Bribie Island, Mooloolaba and Maroochydore all reasonably priced pleasant seaside towns with all amenities and within easy reach of Brisbane, if we can help in anyway we actually live near Bribie island. :o Nignoy

I lived there for long enough to raise my family, let me tell you that it is not overcrowed after BKK :D .  Yes, it is expensive, but the air is clean and I did'nt really miss the ladyboys! The decision to move would depend upon your lifestyle and pocket, but, anywhere in Australia is expensive compared to here.

I would suggest that you take time to check out the coastal strip fromTweed Heads north through Gold Coast, Brisbane, Bribie Island and all the way up to Hervey Bay.

Let me know if I can help,  we will be back there before Christmas.

Cheers

Have been several times to this region. Like you I didn't miss the Ladyboiys, but the Waitresses at the several Bars I visited where not so friendly as they are in Thailand :o , anyway, If I would get a permission to stay for longer in Australia, it probably would be this part of wonderful Australia. Unfortunately this will be a dream for ever.

I have been there many times, I'm (or was) a surfer.

Those spectacular sights are a furphy. The crime (non -violent stealing) is rampant there, so many drop outs inhabit the place, sharing weather board panel houses, enjoying the dole and stealing around. Drugs problems all around.

Along the coast, all you get is the moist, noise and a black (and noisy) ocean hole overnight. Winds beating and rattling your windows.

An apartment that has both sides would need a TV in the back room at volume of 11, while on the ocean side would need 27.

So, when you close the doors and windows, it's like being in your unit elsewhere, even in a shithole like Leichester, UK.

The real Gold Coast is at South Port and behind the beach.

Oh, the place and roads have been designed for 25K people.

Now, there are 300K. Pattaya traffic jams are a joke compared to Gold Coast nightmare.

not sure why this thread is directed at asians but the Sunshine Coast seems quite intriqing (to this Brit!), although I thought there were restrictions on foreigners buying property in Oz?

A better comparison than Pattaya, for the Gold Coast would be Las Vegas or South Beach in Florida.

It's full of high rise apartment and hotels, night life, tourism, shopping, casino, glitz, Japanese, theme parks, retired Victorians, surfers, drunken vacationing schoolkids, millionaires, huge houses on canal estates, boats, some of the dodgiest real estate salesmen on the planet, beaches for ever and revolting phony people. Might be just what you're looking for.

(Yes, it's on the beach so there is a bit of wind sometimes, but not a problem if you live somewhere with four sides)

As someone else said, the Sunshine Coast is much better, or for me, Port Douglas.

And I'm not going to mention Exmouth because that's a secret. :o

There are definitely no restrictions on foreigners buying property in australia, you dont even have to be resident here to own property, 35% of new homes in this area are owned by overseas owners, like in Huahin or Phuket , causing the prices of housing to rise 400% in the last 7 years, so that locals can no longer afford to buy houses. Oh before I forget in lots of places the Roads in Thailand are better :D:o Nignoy

Sorry Nignoy, I disagree. There are restrictions for foreign investors. Before purchase, non residents need to apply for permission to the Foreign Investment Review Board.
