What is this cap on floodlight?

There is a screw on cap at the back of this floodlight, no idea what it's purpose is. The light has stopped working for some reason, tried changing the globe but still doesn't work.

Since it's stopped working, just unscrew it and find out

 

I suspect it's holding the guts inside the casting.

Already done that, just see some wires inside.  I'm sure there is somebody who know exactly what it's for, no more guesses thanks.

When it comes to electrical items a guess isn't good enough. I'm not being ungrateful but I want someone who can say exactly what the cap is for.

The cap has a grease nipple under it. Just take the cap off, grease the nipple, screw the cap back on and your electrons will again move freely.

My definitive answer.

The outside of the cap looks like it has a photon sensor on the end. Were any of the wires connected to the cap ?

There is power to the pond pump from the same source, so unless there's a fuse in the light itself.

No. There's just a red dot on the cap.

No of course not. It’s most likely an access port, look for a screw inside the the unit that will release the light socket.

Actually that is exactly what I would do, with a mains tester screwdriver.

I have looked inside but all I see are a couple of wires, but that suggestion makes sense.

TBH from the picture you have posted, it is very difficult to recognize exactly what type, model this is. Any labels stuck on it? Or any other identifiable markings?

See if there’s a holding mechanism/clip against the rear of the socket inside the housing.
