Well... Although i think this will reduce the Thai population even more. i do hope it gets some of the layboys off the streets in the big cities. Find themselves a foreigner man wanting to marry them. This way the husband/husband can support each other financially and make an honest husband out of the ladyboy. Hahah

I think the law applies to two PERSONS of the same sex, regardless of the rest. ie nationality, religion, etc. Unless there is some exceptions, which I think would have been mentioned. But then again, TIT...att the local city hall some surprises might be awaiting, just like at the immigration, so to speak. For example at the local government outlet I went to to make will, the staff leader outright declared "we don't do farangs here," and that was it.

Yes, I've already said to my b/f that we won't be first out the door in late January. Leave that to Bangers & the tourist slums.

 

Here at the edge of the jungle I expect it may take some time for the news to penetrate to the local desk workers. No point in confusing them with cannot and chanote.

Yes, but being married eliminates estate taxes, it also quashes objections from other heirs.

Yes, I agree , equal rights should apply.

I am not sure how immigration will tackle wanting to see there matrimonial togetherness.

The visa issue is one thing I have not seen addressed yet. Marrying a Thai male gets a "Green card". Marrying a Thai female does not. OK, how would you like to address this clear sex discrimination?

I am lucky in that respect, my wife has told her kids in no uncertain terms, to let me continue living in 'our' house, and even have a new lady to 'take care of me', her kids have their own house and lives to live, they are both hard workers. But I honestly don't think I could live in the same house anymore, remembering her joy when the durian trees fruit, and especially walk around 'our' village with a new lady in tow. I got married here properly well over 20 years ago, and when we bought a house I had to sign papers at the Amphoe that the house was not considered property of the marriage, which would be disposed of 50/50, so that I would not acquire land. The best wat to deal with your problem, for you or anyone in a less secure position, is to sign a 99 year lease from your wife on the house. That should continue even if she deceases.

I have a British colleague on Koh Samui who specialises in this. He tells me that an English will, once translated into Thai, can be registered at the "local Government outlet" and it then becomes binding here. I am guessing that you offered the local Government outlet a foreign language will.

If you mean "scam" so as to purchase land, I see no reason for that as being married to a Thai does not give you any rghts to own land.

They don't but the current law gives residency to foreign women marrying Thai men. Foreign men marrying Thai women do not get this benefit.

How can you obtain a lease for 99 years when the maximum is 30 years???

There are still qualifications, especially for the Thai males work and salary but considerably easier than for women
