Popular Post webfact Posted September 29, 2024 Popular Post Posted September 29, 2024 A family of three in Udon Thani, who received 10,000 baht from a government program, used the funds to buy a second-hand motorcycle with a sidecar for work. With the remaining money, they celebrated by drinking alcohol. However, the celebration took a violent turn when the intoxicated son struck his father on the head with a ceramic coffee cup, causing severe bleeding. On September 29, Pol. Lt. Col. Jamlong Thongfuang of the Udon Thani Police Station responded to a report of a son attacking his father at a house in Moo 13, Nong Na Kham, Udon Thani. Upon arriving at the scene, police found a shattered coffee cup outside a raised wooden house. The 63-year-old father was found bleeding profusely from a deep wound on his forehead. He was quickly given first aid before being transferred to Udon Thani Hospital. The injured man's 58-year-old wife, heavily intoxicated, was nearby and hysterically shouted, "Yod hit his father!" Police calmed her and learned that Yod, the 35-40-year-old son, had fled the scene on a motorcycle, reported Daily News. A neighbor, who witnessed the aftermath, said the family had been drinking since 9 a.m. and that Yod often became violent after consuming alcohol. Police are now working to locate Yod for questioning, while his father remains under medical care. The family had been celebrating the recent purchase of a second-hand vehicle, spending the rest of their money on alcohol and snacks. The investigation is ongoing. Gottfrid Posted September 30, 2024 Posted September 30, 2024 This is what happens when they just give money in hand to people. The handout was supposed to be in digital wallet form and restricted against buying alcohol and other unnecessary things. Now they changed that and see the result of it. A result a 7 year old could have calculated. The people in charge in this country are a joke, and it is high time to question both their intelligence and what they remember from their education or if they ever understood what they were learning. If they didn´t like the digital wallet form, they could have used the system for 50/50 payment online they had before, but added 10k and changed that people could but 100% with the given money. That system already have blocking for alcohol and possibility to allow or block other products as well. But, that was probably too easy to understand and implement. 1
Popular Post mfd101 Posted September 30, 2024 Popular Post Posted September 30, 2024 Here in sth Surin you can't get near a bank today. Crowds outside every one, some 20 or so deep. For most of the local population, 10K in hand is more than they've seen in their whole life. And you have to search long & hard for an ATM with some cash in it. (Though succeeded on the 4th try.) No doubt some of the cash handout will be well spent, though even that will be all gone by the end of the week ... 3

black tabby12345 Posted September 30, 2024 Posted September 30, 2024 Truly hopeless family. All drunk at the same time and doing a stupid thing that caused them losses. Remains of the govt handout could well be used up for father's hospital care. And unsure if their father could work enough again after his treatment. They might be worse off than before 10000B helicopter money.

Vote Buying. Long standing tradition of the Pheu Thai Party(used to be Thai Rak Thai Party=Patriot Pary). Since Thaksin era(2001-2006). 2

PTP's economic plan coming together nicely. Thais using the money wisely as anticipated. CP must be rubbing their hands together with the uptake in alcohol sales. 1 2

black tabby12345 Posted September 30, 2024 Posted September 30, 2024 Perfect example of the Resource Curse at individual level. If they have no brain/maturity, they cannot make a good use of the gift that is supposed to help them.

If they were serious about the 10,000 baht hand out then they should've given the money in vouchers that can only be spent in reputable businesses. With a stipulation that booze or smokes can't be bought with these vouchers. Probably a good idea but not a vote grabber. 1 hour ago, black tabby12345 said: Perfect example of the Resource Curse at individual level. steven100 Posted September 30, 2024 Posted September 30, 2024 Lunatics from hell.... they can get alot of Lao Khao with that lovely cash. So this is about the 3rd or 4th one we've read so far regarding violence after getting the cash, including a couple of killings, and there are many other incidents we don't know or don't get reported.

GammaGlobulin Posted September 30, 2024 Posted September 30, 2024 How much is Bt.10,000.00? Is that, like, a LOT of money, or something? These days, with inflation, I would imagine it's hard to even get drunk on Bt.10,000.00. If I had Bt.10,000.00, I am not really sure what i would do with it. Maybe, ... I might put a down-payment on the golf membership at the Clearwater Bay Golf & Country Club in Hong Kong. I have always liked the looks of it. Why kill or fight over Bt.10,000.00, when there are far better things worth dying for?

mithunonthenet Posted September 30, 2024 Posted September 30, 2024 Aaaaand this is why cash handouts are a bad idea. South Korea trialled handouts before but they were smarter. The gave people pre-loaded cash cards and it came with restrictions. People could only use those cards at select stores within their communities.
harryviking Posted September 30, 2024 Posted September 30, 2024 I guess a lot of that "Helicopter money" will be used for the infamous Lao Khao!

With which they cannot buy booze, and tobacco. Can only be spent on life essentials like daily commodities(food, clothing, medication including over the counter dose). Is my understanding correct?
