Ukraine ... Enlighten yourself

Russia has become a non-country under these actions by Putin, it will take probably 20 years for them to ever recover their standing in the world, shunned from economic forums, world politics and sporting events

He is on the way to bankrupting (but keeping his billions I guess) the country and wiping out a generation of young men to the Ukrainian meet grinder

Even if they gain their way to Kyiv and claim a win, they will face a resistance from Ukrainian people not seen since the French under the Nazi

But once you get to know them, you realise they're more decent than most.

THE TRUTH ABOUT RUSSIANS:

I find the indifference with which the Russians treat the Ukrainian tragedy appalling.
Meeting Russian tourists in Thailand and seeing that they pretend to be completely unaware of the wounds inflicted by their government, by their army, in their name and on their behalf, to the Ukrainian population, is unbearable.

During the Vietnam War, or the campaigns in Iraq and Afghanistan, it was not uncommon to encounter Westerners who openly disagreed with, even vigorously protested, their government's policies.

We can see it today with Israel. We can see it within Israel, where there is a strong public opinion challenging the course of action followed by the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's government.

The Russians, on the other end, don't. Never. With very few exceptions, Russians are used to passively accept whatever their ruler decides for them. They are ready to carry out any order given to them without asking ethical or moral questions.

Russians constitute a threat to the freedom of the people living in their neighboring countries and worldwide, first and foremost because they place no value on their own personal freedom.

A people of slaves, they don't think twice about enslaving anyone who comes within reach. If you don't believe me, ask the Belarussians, the North Koreans, the Cubans, the Vietnamese, the Chinese, the Venezuelans, the Nicaraguans...

So he tried, the only dispute is in your mind, failed and now it doesn't matter anymore since he failed.

You can keep beating a dead horse but it won't make it get up. Putin, even if he ever had the capability to conquer all of Ukraine which I doubt, obviously does not now, so it's a nonsense to use it as propaganda.

For a detailed account of how and why Russia finally decided to make an incursion into the Ukraine Colonel Jacques Baud is a well-informed source.  If you do not find the full details in this interview - https://www.thepostil.com/our-interview-with-jacques-baud/ - you will find them in the English translations of his published articles in Le Postil.

NOT a French Colonel.  So that deals with your objection to seeing what he says. Not that your objection would have been in the least bit valid if he was French.

Allowing for rabid nationalistic wilful blindness, perhaps I should have suggested Col. Douglas Mac Gregor:

You mean this Swiss Colonel?

"He has been criticized for relaying several conspiracy theories , his denial of the Syrian regime's responsibility for several chemical attacks and for his positions favorable to Vladimir Putin , notably through the sharing of disinformation during Russia's invasion of Ukraine ."

Read this link for a list of his conspiracy theories including that Osama Bin Laden was innocent!  However, I doubt his pro-Putin conspiracy theories arise from his French-Swiss nationality.   Why? Because after 511 years of strict neutrality, Putin has the Swiss siding with NATO. LINK

So he would not be a reliable reference on much anything outside of Kremlin propaganda.

I have been to Russia twice in the 1990s. I traveled around by train with a Russian guide, first time male, second time female. I had a wonderful time and met some really great Russian people. I was offered Vodka so many times I got sick of it. I do not believe most of the Russian people support this crazy war. It is the madman, little Putin that is trying to prove his self-worth but failing.

There are multiple sources available online that support what Jacques Baud says.  Although some can no longer be found by standard web-searches (changed algorithms).  Or have been forcibly removed.  For being contrary to official narratives.

Some, like Baud himself, provide first-hand evidence, and cannot be lightly dismissed as 'conspiracy theory' (a term popularised by the CIA to discredit evidence that countered the official theory that JFK was assassinated by a lone gunman).
They need to be countered on a factual basis.

Jacques Baud is a former intelligence officer whose articles are published in specialised intelligence reviews.  The profession deals in collecting and analysing facts.  Not political goals.  Although latter-day statements by MI6 might seem to indicate the contrary.

While still useful on many subjects, there is now considerable doubt about the reliability of Wikipedia on battleground subjects such as international relations:

https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/us-politics/wikipedia-founder-larry-sanger-democrats-b1885138.html

https://nypost.com/2021/07/16/wikipedia-co-founder-says-site-is-now-propaganda-for-left-leaning-establishment/

[I feel that the modern use of the word 'left' in a political context is misplaced]

Although there is no black and white as to who was lied too and who is right and who is wrong in the Ukraine war, it was an invasion of one independent state by another (and the war actually started in 2014). There was very little negotiation, just give in to our demands and then a Russian invasion of Crimea and fomenting of an insurrection in the Donbass. The west allowed this to go unanswered other than a few sanctions and verbal criticism. Remember the Dutch airliner shot down by a Russian SAM system. Russia never admitted responsibility.

I understand why Russia invaded Crimea, they had interests there (Russia's Black sea fleet) and it was never really Ukrainian. But the Donbass? Just pure greed. And when that was only partially successful, they went for out and out war. War crimes were committed on civilians and soldiers by Russia. Is it surprising that Ukraine wants to join Nato?

As to what is actually happening in the war, subscribe to Tom coopers blog on Sarcastosaurus. Yes, Ukraine is currently slowly loosing, Russia has the demographic advantage and more weapons. However, the Russian losses are appalling. All the well trained troops are gone, wasted in frontal attacks. The mobiks are launched the same way, and the casualty rate is about 3 Russians to one Ukrainian. However Russia has a much larger population. Half of all armour and artillery has been lost.

Economically, Russia is suffering. It is diverting a large percentage of its GDP to a war economy, but  there military-industrial complex is in disarray, due to corruption, lack of maintenance and sanctions. They are unable to replace many of the weapons they loose; without the help of North Korea, Iran and China, they would be short of ammunition and drones. At current rates of expenditure of weapons, Russia will only have infantry left in 2 years.

From a cynical western point of view, if the war continues, Russia will be a spent force by early 2026. However, they are learning   how to fight drone wars - the west is still woefully behind on this. The question is, who blinks first, Russia or Ukraine. Loosing the war will see the end of Putin of Zelensky.

As to Russia's standing in the world, it may be abysmal in the west, but the rest of the world doesn't care - like China, there help comes without lectures on Democracy, corruption and human rights. The west, and particularly USA and France, are loosing ground in Africa, because they find it insulting to be lectured too and treated like naughty children. They also see that israel can do no wrong in western eyes, even though they have caused chaos for over 50 years in the middle east.

The second half of this century will be very different, just in what way it is hard to say, but not looking good.

This post is almost 100 per cent wrong in everything.

Literally almost every sentence is dripping with ignorance and ill-informed nonsense.

One would correct it, but it would take so long.
