Thai Tax

Can anyone recommend a Tax Accountant in Pattaya who speaks good English who can help me with the Thai tax reporting that I will need to do at the end of this year. I will have received income here this year in my Thai bank account from UK and French pensions and also UK savings held in my Nationwide UK bank a/c at 31/12/23. I am a  sick 83 y.o. so would prefer that any discussions that are needed are not conduced online or outside Pattaya. A guide as to what I might expect to pay would also be appreciated.

I strongly suggest you wait until the end of the year once all the new tax forms and  instructions have been made clear by the Revenue. As of today, many uncertainties exist which even tax experts do not know the answers to.

Please dont worry about this tax nonsense......Its been one year and no effort has been made to clarify anything....

Exactly. 

From the time of beginning (in May), headlines were made by the empty barks of the tax chief; his own delusion/wishful thinking alone.

 

As of now, absolutely no guidelines of any sorts released from any sources.

 

Thai Embassy still announces on their website:

Foreign Retirees Pay  No Income Tax ( as they are

not allowed to work/run business in Thailand).

 

Do retirees pay income tax? | ThaiEmbassy.com

 

And look at its date:9/27.2024.

It means their advice is Still Current.

 

If you are retirees who can't work here,

don't ever be fooled by those accounting firms(very eager to take advantage of the expats' anxiety: Charging hefty fee for their pointless/useless consultation).

They don't know what is really  going on either.

Pensions are classed as a benefit, not an income.

The UK has a double taxation treaty with Thailand.

It's Siam Legal.

 

But that's OK.  Get your tax advice from a clickbait law firm that uses deception to draw customers.

If you look down at the very bottom of the page that a link was posted to it states in small letters:

 

"This website is managed by Siam Legal International – a law firm in Thailand"

Don't have to look at the small print at bottom of page, it says it's Siam Legal in the banner at top of page

 

They seem to catch a lot of people out though with their fake "Thai Embassy" website

The first thing you should do is to go along to the local tax office and ask for a Thai TIN (tax identification number), explaining that you're an 83-year old pensioner with no income from employment in Thailand, only from overseas pensions. They'll most likely refuse to issue you with a TIN, making it impossible for you to file a tax return, and then you won't have to worry about the issue any more.

I already have a Thai tax number for 4 years as I claimed back on tax I paid on interest I got in my Bangkok bank.

Take some time to review the British and French DTA's as to how your particular flavor of pensions are treated.  I assume you can use both DTA's to your benefit, but would need to confirm.

 

Calculate how much of each type of income you've remitted this year.  Out of that, how much was earned this year...........as in how much assessable income.  Pre-2024 income is still tax-free.

 

Then read up on the Thai allowances and deductions.  You should have well over 500K before any tax due.

Yeah I have one but things lapsed when interest rates were near zero and reclaiming was not worth it....then Covid came along and I stopped getting reminders..

YOU KNOW very well, because you've been told many many times, that the TRD has said they will issue the new tax return forms and instructions, at the end of the year.......it's only October currently.

Quite possibly is... there's little money to be had from the Thai speaking contingent, and to tax foreigners only is much loved approach.

Personally, I came here, among other things, to escape the high prices and taxes in my country, so having to pay taxes in Thailand would be the straw that broke the camel's back and make me move to another country.

And what happens when the tax office are advised by the bank that I have received international transfers. They have already stated what the fine will be for not completing Thai tax returns where appropriate.

Oh they will be springing up in a multitude soon..... there will be quite a rush on for TINs too, one a I doubt the revenue dept could handle.

Meanwhile I've remitted 920k baht this year and will stay 250 days and I won't be going anywhere near an accountant or the tax office.

 

OP needs to relax a bit in my opinion. If not, maybe contact/join the Pattaya City Expats club and they may be able to provide a contact. I know they've had many speakers on tax at their weekly meetings.
