President Biden on Wednesday urged Americans to come together in the wake of Hurricane Helene, emphasizing that recovery efforts should transcend political divides. "In a moment like this, we put politics aside, at least we should put it all aside, and we have here," Biden said during a briefing in Raleigh, North Carolina. At 81 years old and nearing the end of his presidency, Biden emphasized that, "There are no Democrats or Republicans, there are only Americans, and our job is to help as many people as we can, as quickly as we can, and as thoroughly as we can."

However, Biden's call for unity quickly took a sharp turn when he lashed out at those who question the role of climate change in the intensity of storms like Hurricane Helene. Referring to those doubting the link between fossil fuel use and severe weather, Biden declared, “Nobody can deny the impact of [the] climate crisis anymore — at least I hope they don’t. They must be brain dead if they do.” He continued, citing scientists who have pointed to warming oceans as the driving force behind stronger storms. "Today in North Carolina, I saw the impacts of that fury," he remarked after touring storm-hit areas.

 

 

Hurricane Helene has claimed the lives of at least 189 people across six states, with North Carolina accounting for 70 of those deaths. A further 100 residents in the state remain unaccounted for. Despite Biden’s focus on climate change, the slow federal response to the disaster has been a focal point of criticism, particularly from residents in the hardest-hit regions.

 

Former President Donald Trump’s campaign quickly seized on Biden’s remarks, tweeting, “Biden — the uniter-in-chief — says Americans ‘must be braindead’ if they ‘deny’ the hurricane damage is because of climate change.” Conservative commentator Leo Terrell echoed the sentiment, reacting, “Comatose and cognitively declined Joe Biden is calling Americans like me brain dead. This is a joke, Right?”

 

 

Biden has faced significant scrutiny for how he has managed the response to the hurricane. Much of the initial days of devastation were monitored from his Delaware beach house, leading to criticism that he should have been more directly involved. When questioned by a reporter from the Associated Press about whether he should have been at the White House overseeing the response, Biden retorted, “It’s called a telephone!”

 

 

The president also backtracked on his earlier statement that no additional resources were necessary for storm recovery. At the briefing with North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper, Biden acknowledged that Congress would need to approve further funding. "It’s going to cost billions of dollars to deal with this storm… and Congress has an obligation to ensure states have the resources they need," he said.

 

Vice President Kamala Harris, the Democratic nominee in the upcoming election, also visited storm-ravaged areas, making a stop in Augusta, Georgia. Harris has not been immune to criticism either, especially after a photo surfaced of her on Air Force Two wearing unplugged headphones while addressing the crisis. She was also criticized for skipping hurricane preparedness briefings that were a routine part of her predecessor, Mike Pence’s, schedule.

 

Rep. Chuck Edwards of North Carolina expressed frustration with the federal response, saying that his district, which includes some of the hardest-hit areas, had been largely ignored. "The response has been disappointing," Edwards said, noting that despite advance warnings about the storm, federal assistance had only begun arriving days after it ended. "We’ve begun to see some resources brought in today, but the storm was over about 80 hours ago. The storm was over about 10 a.m. Friday. We knew that the storm was coming and only today are we beginning to see the first FEMA employees and trailers and helicopters come in."

 

As recovery efforts continue, the conversation around climate change and disaster preparedness remains as heated as ever, with Biden standing firm on the connection between global warming and increasingly severe weather patterns. Yet, for many Americans, the immediate focus remains on survival and recovery.

The brain dead one is Biden, IMO. He didn't get eliminated from the POTUS campaign because of his incredible brain power.

 

The jury is still out on whether man made pollution is the cause, though the tame scientists claim it is- the science is fixed etc

Now onto business. Any sources that "Biden and Harris stole a billion dollars from FEMA funds to give to illegals"? Didn't think so. Any sources for "Took the money without asking"? Didn't think so.

 

As to the Prosecutor refiling charges against Trump just before an election, didn't the FBI Special Counsel Robert Mueller raise an investigation into Hilary Clinton's e-mails just prior to the 2016 election that turned out to not even be something that charges were filed for and may well have swung that election to Trump? Or are we just ignoring that?

This is great, he's a lame duck with nothing to lose.  He does have to be concerned not to muck things up for his party, but after the election I'm hoping for some serious fireworks, e.g. reopening the Mueller Report case and get the AG off his _ss to give DT what he has coming..

People seem to think that authorities can respond to a disaster like the thunderbirds. Reality - first you have to find the worst hit localities, when communications are often down and roads are blocked. Then the vehicles bringing aid need a route - it can take days to clear roads, repair bridges, so that they can get there. 

 

It would also be a good idea if  houses were actually robust - most seem to be made of plywood , planks and plasterboard. that is why storm damage in USA is so high.

Too much nonsense here to address all of it. But just to address a couple of them. No FEMA did not, as Republicans allege, spend $650 million oh it's fun on immigrants. FEMA did distribute 650 million of the immigration departments funding. As for that $750 nonsense... That's what's called immediate needs money. It's available for families that are currently in distress because of some natural disaster. As the name clearly indicates, it's from eating such needs as food and clothing. It's not a ceiling.

Either because it's cheaper to rebuild plywood houses after a storm, or that's all poor people can afford.

Oh they know helicopters search and rescue I’d venture to guess the USA is #1 on the planet in that regard if you want to throw stones what happened to your country’s navy’s ship ran aground capsized and sank in clear weather during the day?thankfully no lives lost….. the constant belittling and snipes do get tiresome……rite now we are facing another hurricane….sad

So what you're saying is that FEMA is so busy doling out money and managing projects for illegals, and they don't have enough staff and resources to properly manage a hurricane response.

 

It doesn't look good for them, no matter how you spin it.  Especially with all the DEI and social justice pandering that's hitting all but the MSM, who sit in their command posts and say the residents aren't pissed off.  You have to click on the non-MSM sites for the truth. 

 

FEMA's main focus has been on equity and illegals, not hiring based on merit and caring for American in need.  (Kinda like the Secret Service, and we've all seen how that's working out)

Actually 50 military helicopters where mobilised to do search and rescue and deliver aid. Read somewhere on a news site.
