Personally with a son of that age I would think education would be priority #1. Then the couple could move after that.  I am not sure but I would imagine the educational system is better in Oz.

I do not give any laundry to the shops as I got fed up in giving a L or XL sized shirt and getting it back all freshly neatly washed and pressed and transformed to a size S. Far cheaper to get a clothes washing maching and to iron at home if necessary.

What makes you think that they need an Australian state pension?   I do not need to do any research on work available in Thailand and they seem to have it covered with their own businesses.

Pending on age, I am a pensioner have no hospital cover at all went to hospital twice never paid a cent all doctor visits are free for me as well medication dirt cheap.

Manly is way overrated, they were paying more than 67k per year for rent there. Going to work to the city from there is pain, crowded ferries and slow busses. My kid rents a terrace in Newtown for nearly half the money and walks 10-15 minutes to work.

Yes, there’s a massive risk in “buying” immovable assets in countries where you don’t have blood citizenship,  Rule of Law,  endemic corruption , dodgy credit rating etc etc.

Your visa is the ONLY thing that lets you be here…..and they can revoke that on a whim if they choose.

 

If they’ve got $1.2 mill to spend , they could easily put that into a S&P 500 index fund returning a good income to live very well anywhere in SE Asia while keeping your powder dry in safe havens.

Exactly! Just 1 year ago, and they would have had over 30% ROI on S&P 500 ETF Trust. That would have been over 8 million baht. That could have paid for a very descent house with pool in Kathu, Chalong or even Phuket town. It´s half of a pool villa in Rawai. All with 3 bed and 2 bath. How much do you really need, to be stupid enough to risk more money than necessary?

Thai's not that great from my experience. Qantas is the same owner and not amazing. I am happy saving on a 9 hour flight. I think all other airlines involve a stop somewhere which surely outweighs the stigma of having a Jetstar label on your luggage.

I thought that was the reasoning of the previous poster. I get economy with extra leg room  and I'm happy for a 9 hour flight.
