My name on the chanot
You should consider getting a usufruct (สัญญาให้สิทธิเก็บกิน) which gives you permission to stay in the house, either for a specified duration, or for life. An alternative is a right of habitation, but usufruct has more extensive rights including ability to let out the house and receive the rent. Both can be done at the land office, and you will be listed on the chanote. Lots of info online if you google these terms or here in the forums. Recommend hiring a Thai lawyer to assist. -

Who lives on 20k a month ?
Do you have any issues with the language barrier? Is some English spoken by locals in the major cities? Do you use language apps? -

Who lives on 20k a month ?
I haven’t been to Hanoi in 7 or 8 years but when I was there, I did look at apartments for rent and they were substantially less expensive than what I was paying in Chiangmai at the time. I would suspect that Hanoi and HCMC would be more expensive than Da Nang as they are the two major metropolitan areas. How much, I can’t say. The vibe in Hanoi is much different than here in Da Nang (which considers themselves to be “south”) and when I was in Hanoi, the woman who I had befriended spoke very negatively of the south and I suspect that there is lingering resentment from the old days. People are much more laid back and friendly in Da Nang. I’ve never been to any other cities so I can’t speak for them. -

You could not in all honesty call it living, barely surviving would be more appropriate. -
