Maximum Baht I can take out of Tland as cash

Recommended Posts

Why would you even want to take THB out ?   Just convert it to home country currency if that's where you're headed.

Plan ahead if need more with you.

I left with $40k USD once, and obviously didn't report it.

Flying out of Thailand soon.  How much Thai Baht can I legally take out of the country in cash.

50,000 baht. Unless going to neighbouring countries or two provinces in China, in which case, 500k baht and 1.5 mill baht (I think) respectively. THB is restricted currency that is not freely convertible, hence the controls on export of the baht.

The Baht is good around neighboring countries---I have just got back from Vietnam , it was best to take baht. Got a better price for things and only had to come back with the minimum of their mad money  @ 700 Dong =-1 baht

I am often in Lao (as I live near)  do the same.

OP, how much we talkin.

https://www.deemoney.com/

It doesn't matter that the funds are remitted by a bank or by a company such as Deemoney, neither will remit Baht. They will change the Baht into the currency of the destination country first and as the example in the link suggests, it is foreign currency that will be received, not Baht.

Aware of that.

The OP has not provided details.

How much etc.

Why would anyone want to take Baht out of Thailand to perhaps home country.

Not that long ago I purchased a condo from a UK guy.

Due to misunderstanding when he arrived in Bangkok to attend settlement I provided 3 million in baht. (Cash)

No issue however later that day he needed proof the money was from real estate sale.

Think even DeeMoney needed that

OP, is vague.

Seems you are implying you paid in baht in Vietnam for general purchases.

Not good advice.

District 1 has exchange shops that give better exchange than SuperRich in Thailand.

By all means take baht to Vietnam and then convert to Dong at exchange places

I didn't buy a can of beer with Thai money Jack---but for larger purchases--yes it's much better , Art work is great there always bring some back , Clothing/shoes  etc get the price in Dong--- then when you offer Baht it comes down.  Vietnam- Cambodia- Laos..They all want foreign exchange.

Talking about "not good advice" Jack, I was in Dar Nang last month--Gold shops exchange rate way above SuperRich exchange price.

Not always as easy as it sounds. Sure for USD and Euros, but couldn't find ZAR anywhere. Not Bangkok Bank, not at TT, not at any of the 3 currency exchanges we tried at the airport. So just carried B30,000 with me and converted when arrived in South Africa.

You may be right but I read this from the BOT differently

Exporting or Taking Baht out of the country

8.1 Foreign currency banknotes and Thai baht banknotes may be brought into Thailand without an amount limit.

8.2 Foreign currency bank notes and Thai baht bank notes may be taken out of Thailand as follow:

    (1) Foreign currency bank notes may be taken out of Thailand up to the amount purchased from authorized banks or money changers.

    (2) Thai baht banknotes may be taken out to countries bordering Thailand, Vietnam, and China (only Yunnan province) up to THB 2 million, and to other countries up to THB 50,000.

Bringing into or taking out of Thailand baht banknotes in an amount exceeding THB 450,000 or foreign currency banknotes in an amount exceeding USD 15,000 or its equivalent requires a Customs declaration when entering or leaving the country.

You cannot take more than specific low limits of Baht out of Thailand, even if declared to Customs, BOT approval is required beforehand.

If a person wants to take Thai currency out of the Kingdom of more value than the legal requirement, there must be a permission from the Bank of Thailand, and the evidence of permission from the Bank of Thailand must be presented to the customs officer at the international airport when leaving the country".

I always carry in cash the 50'000 THB  required as a reserve for my next visit in the 5 months of winter, in case the bank blocks again my account and refuses to give me cash like it happened with BB last year.

My passport had expired and they wanted the copy of the new one - fair enough. Except that the account was opened in a BB branch in Hua Hin and I was in BKK and of course the bank manager refused to unblock with the new passport and  was only to happy with a sly grin to put another foreigner in hot soup.
