Route recommendations in Sukhumvit area

Featured Replies

I’ll be n Bangkok at the weekend with my folding bike, so would like to know any recommendations for rides starting and ending in Sukhumvit area. Preferably with Strava route or ride references.

In the absence of any helpful suggestions, I tootled up and down Sukhumvit Road and neighbouring streets.  I can see that on a road bike, the traffic might be frustrating, but I was surprised how easy, pleasant and safe it felt.

The only route that I would strongly recommend was Bangna Cross-roads to the Port - a lovely, quiet road that I occasionally enjoyed in a taxi on the way into work, back in the day.

have you tried the 'green lung' Bang Krachao yet? it's s hop over on ferries from Klong Toei

apart from that there's also Saen Saeb Canals that can run parallel to Sukhumvit-Petchburi road - not much to see and the canal's esssentially sewage - smelly but takes you off the road and narrow sois

Looking at the map, on the road from Bangna to Klongthoie, where you turn right to the port, if you go straight (am I allowed to say that?) you get to a ferry.

The one you mention is car ferry, that doesn't quite go to the actual 'green lung' but just outside it

the one in Bangna is pier for big boat that has motorcycle riding on and off here https://maps.app.goo.gl/7mdX821tJhmtDkgYA

there's this ferry pier you can take bicycles on that's closer to 'Sukhumvit/Klongtoei'

It would be a nice round trip to take both ferries.  I think next time I’ll rent a bike here, maybe.   Travelling with the bike was troublesome and expensive for a weekend.

you can take your own bike no problem on the ferries, plus you can come back from the other pier if you want to, if you rent a bike on the island you have to return to the same pier you arrived to return the bike

I was sat in the hotel car park struggling to fit a rear light (I don’t take the folding bike out at night much, but I’d found a Cateye saddle rail mount in my parts bin) and I was struggling - so I thought maybe I’ll just buy a rear light… and the nearest bike shop to my hotel was a rental place.
