In an effort to tackle traffic congestion, the Governance and Order Committee of Pattaya City Council, led by Anupong Puttanawarat, convened for the fourth time this year on 15th October. The focus was squarely on reorganising city traffic, introducing one-way street systems and regulating parking through an even-odd day scheme—a decision that affects major traffic spots like Lan Pho Market, Old Market, New Market, and Soi Post Office.

 

The committee laid out plans for new traffic signs with clear colour indicators—white, red, and yellow zones—to delineate parking permissions and restrictions. By implementing such measures, they aim to reduce traffic bottlenecks and improve road safety for residents and tourists alike.

A consensus was reached on trialing the new traffic regulations, including penalties for breaches, with an on-site inspection scheduled for 21st October, to verify practical applications of these initiatives. This inspection intends to ensure the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed traffic management solutions.

 

Additionally, the discussions ventured into plans for the forthcoming 2024 parking regulation ordinance. To efficiently roll out these changes, the Operations Division of the City Council has been directed to liaise with departments such as Traffic and Transport, City Administration, Revenue Development, and the Tourism and Sports Department. Their collective endeavour is aimed at raising public awareness and securing adherence to the new systems. This coordinated effort reflects Pattaya’s commitment to enhancing urban mobility while accommodating its bustling tourist activity.

Seems to work pretty well on Beach Road and the trials on Sois Honey and Diana between Buakhao and 2nd Rd seem to have been a success.

The sooner we get the monorail installed the better.

Not to worry! At our morning market, they have police standing every day. Despite that, everyone are double parking, driving too quick and stopping the once who park ok from coming out. 

This will just result in same. Nobody cares!

Well, I hope they are putting signs in proper English because in Bangkok on these odd/even parking days the signs are all in Thai and confusing as hell when some English translation is posted.

Agreed; most Thai drivers don't differentiate between red & green at traffic lights attracting zero interest from RTP who are too busy arresting old ladies for gambling.

Does Pattaya have a working RTP? Because here in PakKret-Nonthaburi, nobody follows even the simplest traffic or parking rules.

A year or so ago talks about that incl drawings of how the traffic directions would be, but no change other than Diana and 11

... Maybe they plan to apply the even-odd parking on the Soi. Or make it two way. Or change direction. You never know what comes out of these announcements. Confusion and missed expectations are certainty though.

     Tiny baby step with the odd-even parking.  Still way too timid in making the decisions that are really needed--like eliminating parking altogether on the major roads and adding extra travel lanes--North Pattaya Road the best example of a road that needs it badly.   

     On some of these roads eliminating parking would also allow some room to plant trees and improve sidewalks where needed--parts of Pattaya Second Road have very narrow or no sidewalks at all.  Also needed, a crew of Meter Maids on the major streets to ticket illegal parking.  And, more public parking garages built, partly funded with parking fees, street parking meters and parking fines.

They should also add odd/even plate numbers to it.

 

Then develop an App that drivers can use.

 

Lets see, it's odd day parking, but I'm an even plate number so I can park or even double park anywhere I want.  

 

Just like now.
